I think I might put this character on hold for now, while I try to make them more than just “my lover got killed and so I went full empty goth.” I also want to check out the other game that everyone has mentioned, to see if they better fit that one.

Jokes aside, angst is seldom something that adds to any campaign since it inherently focuses on the internal state of mind of a single person, thus not promoting shared storytelling and roleplaying. Doubts, sadness and fears are all something that promotes inter-party roleplaying but as soon as it crosses the line to angst, you should probably rethink.
And if only one or two PCs are in that role you're angling for "protagonist syndrome" from the point of character creation as it would demand a lot of focus on those specific characters.
It might just be my opinion/ feelings, but saying a player can't act a certain way (in this case, angsty or brooding) because you think it makes them an attention hog seems odd. Of course the game will focus more on certain characters at certain times. Sure, I understand if a character tries to take the spotlight that's one thing, but you can do that with any emotion or character trait; angst has nothing to do with it. I've played in and seen plenty of games where a character had angst and other characters interacted with them and it was by no means "protagonist syndrome".
Tldr I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with angst in a game. What's wrong to me is when other players write-off that character type as being "edgy" or vying for attention instead of interacting with them.
In that post you quoted me I was talking about the "star-crossed lovers" trope as a defining character concept and a focal point of a campaign. Sure, other PCs could have significant roles in the game but look how that ended for Mercutio and Tybalt.
I still think being a little edgy is generally a good thing. Better than not being edgy at all. As long as you don’t overdo it.
Again, the line between "a little edgy" and "overdo it" is basically non-existant. There's a reason why it's a trope and and stereotype that is often made fun of.

I was thinking that they might try to kill the adventurer who murdered the vampire they loved. More of a revenge based motivation than a romantic one.

Let’s just agree to disagree.
I'm just stating facts.
Well I like VtM. And angst. And romance. And edginess (actually my D&D characters aren’t usually edgy but they’d think it was cool if they met someone who was as long as the person didn’t overdo it and totally hog the spotlight or annoy everyone else).
OTOH I do see your point. There is defo such a thing as too edgy.
i’m late to the party but jesus the ppl in these replies are so boring . who cares if it’s “goth” and “edgy” it’s a ******* fantasy game. everything would be extremely boring if there wasn’t Any angst
i think it sounds like a fine idea; clearly some dnd dudebros have never heard of homebrew. a lot of the fun of dnd is the creativity..
it already sounds fleshed out enough to make sense, though, so as others have said, as long as your dm is open minded and willing to work with you, it seems like a fine starting point

That totally works

Please never recommend that someone read Stephanie Meyer. Jim Butcher would be better for this... or Charlaine Harris.
I like both those writers (Jim Butcher is amazing and Charlaine Harris is the lady who inspired True Blood), but I like Stephenie too.
