Krynn has a very condensed pantheon. They are also active in the world and make regular appearances. They created the world, and treat it as their own playground, complete with fleshy toy and just like little kids, the gods will only share their toys for so long before throwing them all up in the air in anger when the other god wants to play with their favorite toy. So I thought I would give a much larger outline of the gods, and how they will align to your character. I also gave them a personality profile so you can include them in your game. All of this is based on the novels by Margrette Weis and Tracy Hickman. I didn't include their homeplane, since that is more applicable to Planescape, but it is worth noting that all the gods of Krynn have a pocket dimension on the Outer planes they reside in. Also worth noting, the people of Krynn are very ignorant of the Outer Planes and know next to nothing about any of the planes. To them, all the lower planes are the Abyss. After the War of the Lance, most people recognize the gods, even if they don't worship them. The gods will also accept tribute and tithes from worshippers of other gods. For instance, it would be dangerous to not leave a copper at the Shrine of Zeboim before taking a sea voyage.
Also, I am only using the general names used on Ansalon. Elves and other continents have very different names for the gods. Also, not all the gods are worshipped equally in all regions. In some areas of Krynn, some gods are more powerful than others. For instance, in Taladas, the Dark Queen, Takahisis and Paladine aren't even worshipped. Even on Ansalon, Sargas is the higher god for peoples living on the Eastern side of the continent.
Good aligned gods
Paladine (Lawful Good) is the Father of both Good, and Law. As father of good gods, his law is, "Good redeems its own." He is the creator of the Elven race. Paladine is a bit of a catchall when it comes to the gods of good. He spans all affairs and peoples and has no singularly dedicated followers. He is one of the three gods vinerated by the Knights of Solamnia, especially the Rose Knights. His avatar form is either a befuddled Gandalf like wizard named Fizban, a platinum dragon, or a homeless elf named Valthonis. The elf is the form he took when he lost his godhood in the fifth age. Paladine is one of the gods active during the 3rd dragon war. His chief cleric is a human named Elistan whom was rescued by the companions in the final autumn of the war. It would be appropriate for any good aligned Clerical domain and Paladin Oath to worship him.
Majere (Neutral Good) is the favored god of most monk orders. He is a foreign god that came to Krynn to maintain the balance. His follows tend to be pacifist. Recommended domains: Life, Nature, Twilight, War, Peace, knowledge. Circle of Shepherd druids and Dreams. Paladin Oaths: Ancients, Devotions, Redemption. Monks: All
Kiri-Jolith (Lawful Good) is the good aligned god, devoted to war and combat. He is the second god venerated by the Knights of Solamnia, particularly the Sword Knights. A minority of Minotaurs also worship him too, while those that worship the evil god of war, Sargas, view Kiri-Jolith as a brother in arms and will pay homage to him. Any good aligned clerical domain that receives a melee bonus at level 8 would worship him. Paladins and Monks of good alignment may also find favor with him.
Mishakal (Lawful Good) is the wife of Paladin and god of healing and the light bringer. She is known, if not worshiped in every culture. The elves pay particular homage to her. Her avatar is typically an old human lady. Mishakal is running a secret order of clerics in the 300 years after the cataclysm. The other gods are not aware of this, or at least choosing not to stop her. Her chief cleric is the human barbarian Goldmoon. Clerics of Mishakal are the most likely to be active during the Dragon War. Clerics: Knowledge, Healing, Grave, Peace, Order, Stars, Twilight. Paladin Oaths: Devotion. Monk: Way of Mercy.
Habbakuk, (Neutral Good) is god Animal Life, and the Sea. He is also god of justice. He is the third god venerated by the Knights of Solamnia, particularly the Crown Knights. He shares his sphere with two other gods, Chislev, god of nature and Zeboim, god of the seas. He is also one of the patrons of the elves. All Sailors will acknowledge him, but no sailor will openly pray to him on the seas. This will draw the anger of Zeboim. However, they will pay tribute to him to save them from Zeboim's wrath. Zeboim rules the turbulent waves above the seas, while Habbakuk rules the calm below the seas. They have a yen/yang relationship. Clerics: Nature, Life, War, Order. Druids: all. Paladins: Crown, Devotion, Glory, Conquest. Barbarians: Storm Herald. Warlock: Fathomless.
Branchala (Neutral Good) is a god of music, party, and creativity. He is a close friend to Habbakuk and is mostly venerated by Elves and Bards. Any class that is focused on the arts would worship him, particularly Knowledge domain. Clerics: Nature, Stars, Twilight, Tempest. Paladins: Ancients, Devotion, Watchers, Glory.
Solinari (Lawful Good) is god of good magic. Is avatar is the literal white moon of Solinari. He also appears as a young white robed human. He is the son of Paladine and Mishakal and provides all arcane magic to Krynn (there are other sources of magic, but him and his cousins have suppressed all knowledge of natural magic) Only Wizards worship him. It must also be noted that the White Robed wizards will put their allegiance to Solinari before all other gods. When the Cataclysm happened, Solinari did not withdraw, and continued to provide Arcane magic. His clerics would be active during the 3rd dragon war. Clerics: Arcana, Light. Wizards: Any Good aligned.
Neutral aligned gods
Gilean (True Neutral) is the patriarch of the Neutral gods. As leader of the neutral gods, his law is, "Both Good and Evil must exist in contrast." He is the creator of the human race, but few recognize him for this accomplishment. He is the god of knowledge and is focused on recording the history of Krynn. He will not act, or interfere in any event on Krynn. His chief cleric is Astinus, the head recorder at the Library of Palanthas. Astinus is an immortal, middle-aged man. His history is unknown. When the Takhsis stole the world in the 5th age, it was noted that Astinus went with the gods, hinting that his relationship to Gilean is much closer to godhood than other mortals. Astinus will provide access to his recorded history, but will not interfere. Gilean's clerics are active through the Age of Despair. Prior to the cataclysm, nearly every major city had a library. After the cataclysm, Gilean's clerics sealed the libraries and devoted their lives to protecting the knowledge until the gods return. Gilean's followers are called monks, but are in reality scholars. Clerics: Knowledge, Arcana, Forge, Stars.
Sirrion (Chaotic Neutral) is god of flame, creation and natural power. Of all the gods, Sirrion is the most destructive and dangerous. He does not receive power from worshippers, but rather by consuming in fire. His avatar is of a burning humanoid that consumes everything around him. Sirrion's consort is Shinare whom he fights with constantly. Unlike Gilean, he approaches neutrality with curiosity to see what happens when he interferes. He shows no favoritism and will create chaos or order, just to see what happens. When the Ogres were cursed to degeneration, a cabal of Ogres begged the gods to save them. All the gods rejected them except Sirrion whom gave them the Fire Rose. A magical rose, capable of granting any wish. Sirrion wanted to see if the Ogres would use the rose to save their race, or covet its power and murder each other for it. Considering the state of the Ogre nation, can you guess what happened? Clerics: Forge, Light, Healing. Druid: Circle of Wildfire. Druids: Crown, Vengeance, Conquest.
Reorx (Lawful Neutral) is the god of creation, the forge and invention. Reorx is another foreign god that came to Krynn when he was exiled from his native pantheon. What crime he had committed is unknown, but considering the havoc he has created on Krynn, one could imagine. While the other gods are certainly responsible for creating the world, it was Reorx that did the forging by taming the forces of Chaos, another god. Reorx crimes on Krynn are particularly focused on the high god of Chaos. Reorx was the one that taught humans the art of craft, and forging. When these group of humans mocked and ridiculed Reorx for his small stature, he turned them into gnomes, and when they started to one-up him, he turned them into the cursed Tinker Gnomes. Later, Reorx is tricked by the gods Hiddukel and Chislev into creating the Greygem, using a slight piece of chaos to add a bit of spice to the stagnant world. Instead, Reorx captured the entire god of chaos and imprisoned him. Considering that Reorx was responsible for forging the world out of Chaos's being, Reorx fears the god above all else, so rather than immediately letting the god free, Reorx hid what he had done on the moon Lunitari. Eventually, some very clever gnomes discovered a way to retrieve the Greygem, unleashing its chaos powers upon the world of Krynn. The races created by Good, and Neutrality (Including animals) were transformed by the Greygem into all the varieties on Krynn. For whatever reason, the Greygem did not transform the Ogres. Reorx fears deeply that Chaos will be released from the Greygem, and makes great effort to find and hide it from the other gods whom he believes would tear apart the heavens to possess it, or worse, set Chaos free. Like Paladine, Reorx's hides his avatar's identity (poorly) as a foppishly dressed dwarf named Dougan Redhammer. Reorx is also a compulsive gambler, which is the primary reason he gets into so much trouble. Reorx is the patron of Dwarves and Gnomes and is considered the most important deity to them. Kender also revere Reorx. Humans may also worship him. Clerics: Forge, Knowledge, Order, Trickery, War, Twilight. Paladins: Crown, Glory, Devotion.
Chislev (Neutral) is god of nature. She is served by animated wooden creatures. She is particularly important to the Elves. Clerics: Nature, Grave, Life, Tempest. Druids: All Paladins: Oath of Ancients, Watchers.
Zivilyn (Neutral) is god of wisdom. He is another foreign god that came to Krynn to maintain the balance. He has the ability to see into the future, and all possibilities, but must specifically looking for for something to determine the possible outcome. He is the advisor to Gillean, and consort to Chislev. Clerics: Arcane, Order, Knowledge. Druids: Dreams, Stars. Paladins: Watchers, Ancients.
Shinare (Nautral) is god of Wealth, Money and Industry. She is companion to Sirrion. She is the second most venerated by dwarves. Clerics: Forge, Knowledge, Trickery. Paladins: Devotion, Crown, Glory.
Lunitari (Neutral) is god of neutral magic and Red Robe Wizards. She is the daughter of Gilean. Her mother is unknown. Her avatar is the Red moon of Lunitari. She also appears as a young human woman in red robes. Her loyalty is first to her cousins of Black and White magic, before her father. Clerics: Arcana, Light . Wizards: any neutral aligned.
Evil aligned gods.
Takhisis (lawful evil) is the general goddess of evil. As leader of evil gods, her law is, "Evil turns on its own." When the world was created, she started the All-Saints War against the other gods. This led to the High god, declaring the balance between good and evil. At the start of the world, she created the Ogre race, a cruel, beautiful, long lived race. When the ogres degenerated into ugly beasts, it is assumed Takhisis rejected her creation in favor of Chromatic Dragons. As a result of the god's rejection, no Ogre will venerate the gods. Takhisis does not hide her avatar, she most often appears as an extremely beautiful, black haired warrior woman. Her most fearsome avatar is that of a five-headed dragon. This has led her to be associated with the cosmic dragon god, Tiamat. This connection has never been made in Dragonlance lore, but Wizard of the Coast seem to be intent on making them one and the same. Takhisis desperately wants to enter the world in full form, and rule it. She has started three Dragonwars. Little is known about the first dragon war, but it resulted in the Dragons being expelled as rulers of Krynn, and the founding of Silvanesti. The Second Dragonwar resulted in the invention of the Dragonlances and the knight, Huma Dragonsbane wounding Takhisis and expelling her from the world. The 3rd Dragonwar is the one we are in now. After the 3rd Dragonwar, Takhisis will start her own dedicated knighthood called the Knights of Takhisis. They will be utterly devoted to her, and mix clerical, arcane and sword, with a strict code of honor. After her son, the god of black magic betrays her in the 3rd dragonwar, she starts her own arcane order that can carry swords, and wear armor. Clerics: Any evil, including Arcane. Paladins: any Lawful Evil. Wizards: Any (not associated with the Orders of Sorcery and will be killed on site by them.)
Sargonnas /Sargas (Lawful Evil) is god of vengeance and warfare. Sargonnas is consort to Takhisis, but rarely supports her. He has opposed Takhisis in all her wars. Sargonnas is most venerated by the Minotaur and humans on the eastern shore of Ansalon where he is known as Sargas. Sargas is highly respected by the Knights of Salamnia. His followers may be of any alignment that is devoted to warfare and competition. Sargonnas avatar is a towering Minotaur. Clerics: Forge, Order, War. Paladins: All
Morgion (Neutral Evil) is god of disease, decay and plague. Morgion is the most feared god of Krynn, even among the other gods. His followers are promised immunity to disease and the debilitating effects while their bodies are covered with ugly pustules, and rashes. Clerics: Healing (reversed), Nature. Druids: Spores
Chemosh (Lawful Evil) is lord of the undead and death. He is another foreign god to Krynn. Chemosh has an extremely important place in the pantheon. It is his job to receive all souls after death. He stands as judge, before souls go on to the afterlife. Other gods may speak on a souls behalf during judgement to take the soul to their own home plane. Souls that are not ready to be passed on into the afterlife, cursed, or Chemosh's own followers are returned to undeath. Chemosh's avatar is a charming, handsome gentleman, human. His followers are outcasts that tend to worship in crypts and graveyards. Something that annoys the god. Clerics: Order, Grave, Death, Twilight.
Zeboim (Chaotic Evi) is god of tempest and weather. She is daughter of Takhisis and Sargonas. She is also known as "The Sea B...," a title she relishes in. She hates her mother, but has a working relationship with her father, since his Minotaur are a seafaring race. She hates her mother, and will not aide her, but also fears her and will not oppose her. She is an extremely dangerous god, that may be calm one moment, and fury the next. She appears as a young woman, covered in a flimsy sea green gown. She is extremely friendly and bubbly, but can quickly turn to absolute rage. Her temper is violent, but very short. No sailor will actively worship her at sea. To do so will only draw her attention. She is very fickle and is known to drown her followers, while saving those that reject her. This is actually intentional. She knows if she only saves her worshipers, they will stop fearing her. However, it's the fool that does not tithe her shrine before setting out on a sea voyage. Prior to the 3rd Dragonwar, she had a relationship with the High Dragonlord, Ariakas, giving birth to Ariakan who was captured by the Knights of Solamnia during the War of the Lance. Ariakan grows up in the knighthood and spends years studying the Oath and the Measure. He uses his knowledge of the knighthood to form the evil aligned, Knights of Takahsis, which are modeled after the Solamnic Knights. Clerics: Tempest, Nature, life, astral. Paladins: Vengeance.
Hiddukel (Chaotic Evil) is the god of greed, trade and deals. His avatar is of a greasy fat man. Hiddukel is responsible for tricking Reorx into crafting the Greygem. Clerics: Knowledge, Trickery, Knowledge, Order.
Nuitari (Lawful Evil) is god of black magic. His avatar is the black moon of Nuitari which is only visible to evil clerics, black robe mages and undead. His avatar appears as a human, surrounded by darkness, making him appear to be a disembodied head. He will aide his mother with his magic, but will turn against her if the other gods of magic vote to oppose her. By Winter in the final year of the War of the Lance, the black robe wizards have abandoned Takhisis. Because of this, after the war, Takhisis starts granting magic to her own magic users. Clerics: Arcana, Light. Wizards: Any evil aligned.
Other Gods.
There are three other gods that are not worshipped on Krynn.
High-god is god of Order. It is he that set the universe into creation. His law is "law of consequence, " which states that any law obeyed is blessed, and any broken is punished. Most peoples on Krynn are not aware of his existence. The high god rarely meddles in affairs on Krynn and only when the balance threatens to be broken. It is assumed that it was the High-god that threw the Fiery mountain on Istar, causing the cataclysm when the High-Priest of Istar demanded to be made a god. He was also responsible for taking all the holy artifacts after the cataclysm.
Chaos is god of chaos. Chaos is more powerful than all the gods combined (except the high-god). It was his essence that was used to forge the world. This creation of order would have been destroyed until Chaos witnessed the gods warring against each other and chose instead to watch their creation crumble. When Reorx trapped Chaos in the Greygem, Chaos took pleasure in altering the world with chaos magic. Chaos fears Reorx, because he knows the Dwarf will hide the Greygem from the world. However, Chaos has grown tired of his prison and is seeking an escape. If Chaos should ever escape, he will destroy the world.
Mina is a Good god of regret. When the world was being forged, Gilean, Mishakal, and Majore witnessed the birth of Mina. Quickly realizing, her existence would tilt the balance, they put her into permanent slumber under the Newsea near the island of Schallsea. Majore has deep regrets over this, and considers it an evil act. Mina will not be awakened until the 5th age, but she could appear earlier in a player adventure. Her avatar is that of a curious red-headed child, about 10 years old. In the fifth age, she is corrupted by Takhisis and adopts another avatar of a 19 year old warrior human woman, with red cropped hair. During this period, she betrays her good nature, and becomes a follower of Takhisis, not knowing she is a god of Good. After ascending, she adopts an in-between persona were she represents those that regret their natures. Her clerics only exist in the 5th age, and may be of any alignment and do not require fealty to any alignment. A good aligned Goblin, and an evil aligned elf would be examples of the sort of patrons she has.
