I am going to start a campaign with my group in the Moonsea region in the north east of Faerun. I immediately fell in love with the area while reading about in on the forgottenrealms wiki. Also the forrest of Cormanthyr which is close to the Moonsea has some really cool lore.
I wanted to ask you guys if anybody knows where i can buy some maps for the Moonsea region`s cities and areas. Or just general information about it. The information published in the Dungeon Masters Guide and the Sword Coast Adventurers Guide are not quite enough to set up a whole campaign.
I am also curious to hear if any of you have played a campaign in the Moonsea region earlier and what your experiences where.
I currently play a wizard/cleric in a Moonsea/Plan region campaign. Our DM has utilized several adventures from the DDEX1 Tyranny of Dragons Complete Bundle that you can find on the DMs Guild. I believe he has used about 8 out of the 14 adventures form the Adventure League, however he has also lead us on several adventures in the nearby cities of Melvant, Mulmaster which were not in the Adventure League.
Currently our DM is about to have us leave the city of Phlan for the Cormanthyr area as we continue to follow and uncover the cult of the dragon's plan.
I'll email him and see if he is willing to share the name of other source material he uses.
There is a lot of older material from 1/2e on. about the Moonsea, Zhentil Keep, Phlan, Cormanthor Forest, Myth Drannor, The dales and Anauroch. There is less on The Ride, The Border Forest and areas north and east. All the older source books on Faerun have info on the area with major NPCs, maps, etc. it will have to be updated some but the wiki should be helpful there. I run a campaign in the area but it is heavily altered from the standard lore.

Idk any info on that area (it seems like the published adventures are mostly set in the Sword Coast region) but that sounds like a really cool campaign.

I really like D&D, especially Ravenloft, Exandria and the Upside Down from Stranger Things. My pronouns are she/they (genderfae).
To follow up on baallard's comment; there are quite a few adventures set around Phlan from the DDEX bundle that we've used in our campaign. I've added the ones I know of below in the order I recommend (not the order we played them!) though they can pretty much be played in any order up to adventure 10 (by the way, it's all 5e and I believe they are now free on wizards.com!). Also, many of these are supposed to be "3-5 hours", but at least in our campaign they usually take ~8 hours over two sessions with all the random side activities players can get up to. The adventures in other cities mentioned are all homebrews; the campaign is pretty slow paced, so in addition to DDEX I homebrew roughly every third adventure (or grab stand-alone adventures from other sources) with ~12 sessions taking us from level 2 to 5.
Suitable for level 1-5: DDEX1-4 "Dues for the Dead" DDEX1-6 "The Scroll Thief" DDEX1-2 "Secrets of Sokol Keep" DDEX1-5 "The Courting of Fire" (continues DDEX1-6) DDEX 1-3 "Shadows over Moonsea" (links with DDEX1-4 if they end up looking for an orphanage) DDEX1-9 "Outlaws of the Iron Route" DDEX1-7 "Drums in the Marsh" DDEX1-8 "Tales Trees Tell"
DDEX1-1 "Defiance in Phlan" -- this is a collection of 1 hour mini adventures, I found it better to sprinkle them around rather than start with them. DDAL05-01 "Treasure of the Broken Hoard" -- some fun 1 hour mini adventures that can be sprinkled in after "Outlaws of the Iron Route".
After this, things take a turn in Phlan (suitable for level 5-10): DDEX1-10: "Tyrrany in Phlan" DDEX1-11 "Dark Pyramid of Sorcerer's Isle" (continues DDEX1-10) DDEX1-12 "Raiders of the Twilight Marsh" (continues DDEX1-10, 1-7) DDEX1-13 "Pool of Radiance Resurgent (continues DDEX1-10, 1-4, 1-9 (sort of)) DDEX1-14 "Escape from Phlan" (continues DDEX1-10, 1-5/1-6 (sort of)).
Lots of these adventures are heavily interconnected (beyond what's mentioned above) with returning NPCs, etc. Phlan is also a great adventuring hub given the many interesting things about the city itself (ancient and rebuilt many times, conflict between the old merchant houses and the ruling Zhentarim Lord Protector (and among the houses themselves!), a hilariously named thieves' guild, and more). Also, in many of these adventures the "Cult of the Dragon" is at work; my interpretation is that this is happening during the power struggle between the orthodox cultists and the Church of Tiamat... Also, if you ever want to migrate over to the Sword Coast I think these adventures can fit very nicely as a prelude to Hoard of the Dragon Queen (lvl 1-8) or The Rise of Tiamat (level 8-15).
Just to add to ConcernedLich's comment. The DDEX2 Adventure League set (~14 modules) is centered on the Elemental Evil story line and is focused in the southeast Moonsea area of Mulmaster, while DDEX3 Adventure League set (~11 modules) is the Rage of Demons story line and is focused in Moonsea area of Hillsfar and Elventree. Hope these help.
