just teasing. I was asked to do a large bit of lore for gemstones for my game, lol.

Nice visuals but you left out a few - emerald, watermelon tourmaline, the various beryls, the various non green jades, labradorite, unakite and more. The problem is there are so many pretty colored rocks and minerals that can be cut and polished into beautiful gemstones.but your table is a good start.
It might not be the best thing to include everything anyway. The majority of players aren't geologists (or live with one) or gemmologists or jewelers. Also if one includes hematite, one could also include Taconite (not a mineral but a sedimentary rock formation of mostly iron) and Cummingtonite (official IMA name of it) if the person wanted to include everything. Would probably end up spending a bit of time getting past a mention of those. (Though, a Chaotic Neutral Taconite Dragon sounds awesome.)
Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.

EDIT: Bonus, Welshite gem (also IMA accepted).
okay, sorry, but a taconite dragon can only be encountered on tuesdays and if I didn’t say it somewhere I would have died from repressed juvenile humor.
and thank you. I learned a few things just from that post!

Yes emerald is there, sorry my mistake. Yes you can make almost any stone into a gem of some sort so the table would be huge ( over 4000 different minerals and over 100 different rock types) but the list does shrink when you sort by things like hardness ( generally Mohs 6/7+), luster, color and transparency/translucency which are the factors that generally make for good gems (add high refractive index for clear faceted gems).
The chart is specifically for the gems mentioned in the DMG tables. (I still want a Taconite elemental or dragon.)

Very nice visual aid of crystals! My Druid is big with crystals and has a background heavily involving them so this is rad!
May the Dice be ever in your favor!!
