Ok so I really like the idea of a Death cleric and I'm actually thinking of making the race a kobold, the reason I do this (besides just liking them) is because I have access to Toll the Dead. So I was thinking that in any situation where maybe I have Dis, because its too sunny or something, I could just force a saving throw and not be affected by it. The only issues I have with that strategy though is just that using Toll the Dead I'm pretty sure Is just worse than rolling to hit yourself (and less satisfying as well really) and I don't know if targeting Wis is a good thing or a bad thing. Because of that I'm worried that I'll fall behind in damage a lot and be seen just as another healer bot when I'm a dang death cleric. Are my worries unfounded at all? On a separate note what do you guys think of the Sapping Sting cantrip that clerics can take because of the Reaper feature? I really like the idea of forcing prone on an enemy and if it was a 1d6 instead of a 1d4 I would probably always take it since I think its that cool of a feature on a cantrip. I know that it targeting Con saves really sucks but maybe it isn't that bad? Separate, separate note how would you guys roleplay Toll the Dead or Sapping Sting? I like the idea of Toll the Dead when it does damage it causes someone's eyes to go blank or glaze over while they look paler or maybe their veins are more prominent. Sapping Sting I haven't gotten to on how to RP that so I would love to hear what you guys think! I appreciate any and all advice or thoughts on my character and how to RP some aspects of him. Thanks!
STR and CON saves tend to be the highest for monsters. Not as many have decent WIS. But more importantly, it seems like the necromantic damage cantrip of choice. Consider reflavoring the bell tolling to some other sound, like a kobold death scream.
Toll the dead isn't amazing damage but it's respectable. With opportunities to get reaper going, your damage will be pretty good. Our grave cleric used it for most of his damage and did well enough with it. You'll feel like you aren't contributing as much with some of the numbers that other builds can do, but it's not something I'd stress. Once you get Spirit Weapon and Spirit Guardians going, that won't be as big of a factor either. The most healing the Grave cleric did on me was casting Aid after a long rest and I was the only regular melee character. And I didn't mind the least bit. I'd also consider going with Chill Touch (use reaper to get it and Toll from normal cleric choices if you do) to give you an option to use with pack tactics and the odd occasion when wisdom isn't working.
RAW, Spare the Dying works with the Reaper feature, and if you’re looking for a crap-ton of damage, use Touch of Death with Inflict Wounds (already a powerful spell).

Toll the Dead rules.
Check with your DM before you get attached to Sapping Sting, I'm pretty sure it's Dunamancy.
I don't think anyone who's played with a Cleric in 5e thinks they're heal bots. Even the Life Domain Cleric will kill a lot of monsters.
