I'm guessing many of you have heard of the idea of having an NPC that is secretly three kobolds, or three goblins, or even three halflings, who stood on top of one another and wore a long coat to pretend to be one taller being. I have decided to use this idea, but with a twist. I am going to be an echo knight, whose fighter abilities are caused by the fact that he is (mostly) secretly three kobolds, who had donned a magical trench coat, which caused them to think mostly as one, and allowed them to be stronger that a typical kobold while together. However, if one kobold leaves the trench coat, it becomes weaker, and upon taking a hit, flees back/is teleported back, to under the trench coat. (Feel free to play a similar character in your game) All I need is some optimization help. I was thinking dex based, using a rapier and a shield, as well as some sort of ranged weapon (not a longbow, because kobolds are small). Feats, possible multiclasses, ability spread, tactics, and feedback are all appreciated.
My posting scheduled is irregular: sometimes I can post twice a week, sometimes twice a day. I may also respond to quick questions, but ignore harder responses in favor of time.
My location is where my character for my home game is (we're doing the wild beyond the witchlight).

I have seen some ideas such as this in movies and cartoons/animation.
The issue for me is 3 beings that come together gain the abilities of a different PC/NPC and how to limit that to the creature's in question. IMHO the simple way is to have an artifact that links 3 kobolds only and gives them special abilities when in a specific situation. Thus limiting who can use the item and what abilities are possible when linked.
In general when I create things I ask the following questions; how is this going to affect my game?, how can this go wrong? what problems might this cause now? what problems might this cause in the future? does my idea allow for other strange interactions (often that I might not see at the time)? and if this is an NPC things why is it only a NPC thing and not a PC thing?.
Those are a lot of questions to ask for every creation but I have found in general it often saves problems and or issues later in long running games as well as preventing ret-coning things I did not see coming by intelligent players.
But if you games are short in scope (1-4 sessions) then go for it as issues over that time frame are often limited.
