Average of 20 damage is roughly 4.5d8, so that's comparable to a maxed Cantrip, and is equivalent to the second level spell Scorching Ray.
An optimized character could do more, but it's solid round over round damage. If it's ranged damage, all the better. For the purpose of balance, you should consider the combined total of both your character and your summon's damage relative to your party members individually. 20 damage in addition to your own full turn at 8th level is generous.
A lot depends on what resources your ar eputting into your summon and what you are assuming as your chance to hit.
If you use a 4th level spell slot to cast something like summon elemental, summon construct or an upcast summon fey if all the attacks hit but do not crit you will get 25-27 points of damage on their turn (some have extra means of producing damage such as a metal constucts heated body). To average 20 points of damage the enemies AC would need to be fairly low (say around 14).
Using a 3rd level slot to summon a single creature the level of damage goes down about 50%.
You can generally do more damage by summoning multiple creatures, using a 3rd level spell to cast conjure animals and asking for 8 CR CR 1/4 creatures you might get 8 elk each or which can deal 8 damage on a hit or 15 if there are able to charge (though their chance to hit is much less). Your DM could also give you 8 boar which only do an average of 4 damage on a hit. These conjure spells can cause problems at the table (you essentially are playing 9 characters so you can hog the table and because you don't know what you are going to get you waste time reading it up and comparing that with the battle map). If you want to use these summon spells you should agree with your DM (and possibly whole table) that you can do so and if any restrictions / homeebrew applies.
I need some advice. I don't know numbers all that well but my summon (at the end of my turn) does an average of 20 damage. Is this good for lvl 8?

Yeah. I just leveled up and recalculated.
3 attacks per turn. +13 to hit. 1d10 +8.
If it chooses to call shot it takes a -5 to hit and +5 to damage.
So normal is +13 to hit and 1d10 +8
Called we get +8 to hit and 1d10 +13
Level 9

I didn't calculate the second attack.
Currently the average dpr of my summon (End of my turn, no action)
Is 1d10 +13 x2 then the third attack does 1d10 +17.
So the average damage is 62 to my math. Which may be wrong
I can also have 3 of these on the field if the situation calls for such a desperate action.
