Fireball is a tricky spell-- it's greatest strength is its greatest drawback, and you can't always get around it. I usually prefer Lightning Bolt, since it offers comparable damage with WAY more control. Line up your targets and you can clean house.
Valid. Alas, my blaster Sorceror is Draconic Bloodline / Gold. Fire is sort of his thing.
Yes Melf’s meteors has its down sides, but it also solves the OPs problem of wanting a fire based AoE spell that was more controllable and less likely to injure party members. Other suggestions about utility spells etc are great but don’t actually address the OP’s requirement. MMM allows you to do 14 average damage for 3 rounds while still able to cast 2 other instant spells during the combat. The damage applies to upto 4 medium/8 small foes and can be placed so as to not hit party members but hit several of the foes they are facing. It’s a tactical spell for dealing with minions but it’s an effective spell when used correctly.
