I'm new to DMing, and I can not for the love of me understand how to make a proper kenku. The "no creativity" curse. I know they can't come up with unique ideas, but how do they know how to relate sounds and other stuff to what they want to say? How do they react to situations like a freinds death? All this stuff is just overwhelming for an NPC, who is a leader-figure for a clan/tribe. Anyone who's played a kenku, or a DM who has dealed with one please help.

Kenku A, used to be an adventurer, than came back after years adventuring. kenku B, sees Kenku A do some reactions that Kenku A experienced/saw/learned/copied while adventuring. Kenku C sees Kenku B's actions. etc.
Via trickle down of things like this. Unless the Kenku's were completely shut off from any and all outside influences. You can work around it.
Honestly throw out the no creativity thing...It seems to be such a speedbump in cool character creation. If you still want to nod to that make all Kenku clerics/paladins worship the Raven Queen as at one point the Kenku were lacking in creativity and speech but then the Queen blessed them. Now your Kenku can be creative, however I would still make them repeat words or sounds for RP sake.
Real life ravens and crows can come up with new strategies for getting food or shinies so why nerf Kenku and lock them out of NPC roles?
I want their way of speaking the same, it sounds hilarious. Now, I have mixed feelings on the creativity thing. It could be interesting to see a kenku that is more aware, and try to alert others of what they know, but at the same time, it's a natural quirk.
Have Kenku NPC's speak entirely in quotations from parable/scripture/koan/etc, quoting from their religious/cultural work excerpts that apply to daily situations. It's a little tough to do on the fly, but a little easier to do with PbP.
I like EighPackKilla's idea too, having Kenku tribes have super-photographic memory of everything that their forefathers experienced and learned, and being able to repeat it with exact precision but not come up with their own new content. It even gives a good motivated for Kenku PCs, being young Kenku that are sent out to collect new knowledge and stories to bring back to the tribe so that their cultural proficiency can grow!

So basically, pick what the kenku once did, and stay along the lines of that? Thanks btw!

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
