Hey, running Tales From the Yawning Portal for my group, working their backstories or just letting them earn unique items.
One item I need help incorporating is for my Aasimar (red/gold) Draconic Sorcerer. Allowed him to find an old, faded dragon mask in the sunless citadel and I'm wondering how to power it up. He's a gold/red dragon (still deciding) and planning on giving him the red mask so using his own blood to power it in some why is an idea. I'm horrible with improvising crafting.
I want it to be a multi step process. As of now all I have is *some* sort of powering device in the Doomvault in Dead in Thay, not sure exactly what, maybe one of the crystals in the Chosen area.. or even from the phylacteries themselves at the end... I also was thinking of using the forges in the Fury of the Forge adventure (the 2nd one) to maybe re-mold/craft it in a physical sense with the doomvault instilling it with it's magic property.
I was even thinking of him meeting an avatar of either Bahamut or Tiamat at the Yawning Portal -- their central hub & rest stop in between adventures (depending whether he picked gold or red, or even just leaving a Tiamat avatar to sway him to the dark side with the power of the mask)
I'm running a complete blank on any other steps or even WHAT to do in the above steps. Are there any reagents I should say is needed? Any magical or even mundane rituals should be performed at either point (or any other). I want some interaction but want to avoid dice rolls for no chance of failure

Since he's Aasimar, I was even thinking of him meeting an avatar of either Bahamut or Tiamat at the Yawning Portal -- their central hub & rest stop in between adventures to tell him about the power of the mask and how to actually complete the process so they don't need to actually wonder & guess about it. I do know that there are other assorted magic items for a spellcaster, like fire and frost staves, spell storing rings, etc but can't recall where exactly. Is there any other unique things to give? I prefer official content but would be open to homebrewing.

Second question since I already have a post up might as well ask for any unique and original ideas to give the rest of the group, I'm putting what I already plan to give them but always welcome to more ideas;
ranger (swarmkeeper or hunter: Oathbow & bracers of archery, maybe Elven Cloak (for Stealth), let him craft Walloping arrows. no encumbrance so quiver of elhonna wouldn't be that useful.
Bard (glamour): glamour leather/cloak of many fashions, a bard instrument, instrument of illusions (for utility/fun)
Cleric (life): staff of healing & prayer beads
Barbarian (undecided): he pretty much made Kratos so letting him fight champ of Zeus for Javelin of Lightning and champ of Ares/Herc for homebrew ring that lets him cleave. Worried about giving him any actual weapons cuz there are TONS of weapons throughout the full campaign, including some legendary ones.
