My last character was a Dwarf Paladin from Oath of Ancients loosely based on Gimli from LotR. He had a deep friendship with some elves NPCs and spent a lot of time roaming into the Feywild, hunting some Hags, therefore adhering to the Oath of Ancients was something natural.
My Dark Knight (Paladin/Hexblade) is a mix of Guts from Berserk and Kain from the Legacy of Kain series, with a bit of Dante from Devil May Cry (Zariel Tieffling).
My Bard/Warlock in our Midgard setting campaign, is Ronnie "Jabbles" Osborne, He's a Bard of Metal or an "Iron Wailer" as they're called, and is in search of the Pick of Destiny, and yes his Hometown was called Kickapoo and he asked for Dio for guidance.

Oh damn, that's just awesome! Just need some kind of side kick or familiar to be your Kyle Gass. lol
I often start with a fictional character as a means of creating inspiration and then twist the character to make it more original.
I have a teifling paly (that is reskinned to look like a dwarf) inspired by Prince Vultan from Flash Gordon.
I have a protector aasimar celestial warlock that has a ratatosk warlord as a patron. This character was inspired by Stephen from Braveheart.
Lasty, I have a wood elf ranger that is inspired by Daniel Jackson from Saving Private Ryan. If you sit a table with him, You might hear him call out to Solonar before he shoots his bow or casts certain spells, "Blessed be the Lord my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my finger to fight." Or, a line not in the movie but found further down in Psalms, "Cast forth lightening and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them."
I think some of my favorite characters are those where the build doesn’t quite match the character they’re based on. I once had a dwarf cleric of Thor based on Carson, the butler from Downtown Abbey, complete with my best impression of his voice!

What have been your favorite builds you've created based on another character or person?
I just made a different post for help creating Diablo from Suicide Squad. I thought Ash from Evil Dead would make a great gunslinger.
What builds have you created that turned out awesome for roleplaying or just general build effectiveness?

Well my love of Archfey Warlocks was definitely influenced by Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden of the Dresden Files book series. :)
