I really wish that shove/grapple could be done with dexterity(acrobatics). That could really help, shoving enemies prone and backing off for a kind of control. But monk just isn't a strong class to be stuck in the front line.
You might, alternatively, you might try working with the party to create obstacles to help everyone avoid too much direct contact with the enemy, so you can dart in and out. You and the rogue can throw out things like caltrops, while the wizard and bard use spells to mess with the terrain or move out of range of melee combat.
I thought giving out Bardic Inspiration was a bonus action? I could have been doing that wrong, as I said I was playing the Bard's character for the session so I'm definitely not as familiar with the mechanics. In either case, I found giving me the die was more effective because I was already dodging so they already had disadvantage to the roll, the Bardic Inspiration was extra insurance that if they still managed to hit me I could try to make them miss (as it happened the one time that occurred I rolled low on the d8 and it wasn't enough to negate the attack).
I will say I dodged a lot more last session and that was definitely a big help. If nothing else it's more consistent, I like to go on offense but some turns I spend the Ki to Flurry of Blows and then miss both attacks. Other turns both hit and I knock people all over the room.
Using Acrobatics for grapple would definitely be nice, I'm also proficient in Athletics but obviously my Dexterity score is much better than my Strength. I can see why you can't but I can also see how pulling some Black Widow style gymnastics could be the basis for a grapple/shove check.
Check it out it may help as it’s dealing with open hand monks specifically. The cloak of displacement is awesome and powerful on a monk. Look into bracers of defense and bracers of archery as those are both good for a monk. Mace of Terror can cause frightened condition and there are a bunch of poisons/venom’s you can get that can add the poisoned condition. Carrion Crawlers Mucus causes paralysis which is amazing and is probably the best bang for your buck.

Cloak of Displacement and Bracers of Defense are definitely on my list but what benefit would Bracers of Archery offer? I did find Mace of Terror when I went digging deeper for magic items, it would be fun and I hadn't realized that it was just a simple weapon so I was actually proficient with it and it could be my monk weapon, although it also takes up an attunement slot. If I found one I would absolutely use it but I don't know if I will go looking for one. I hadn't considered poison as an option for inflicting Disadvantage, I didn't even realize it did that to be honest because we haven't encountered it much but it could certainly be effective. If we run into any Carrion Crawlers I will be sure to suggest that we collect some samples after its dead.

Blindness/Deafness is not concentration, so it won't inhibit your spellcasters from concentrating on a spell that they want to concentrate on.
