Hmm. What if we could jettison the Guidance cantrip, and replace it with multiple cantrips that covered different skills, instead of having one cantrip that added to everything? Then, Friends could be the one that adds +1d4 to persuasion checks.
Jettisoning guidance would be a positive for the game but I think it's too well established for that to happen.
i don't disagree with either of you here. i like the idea of more (mostly wizard or bard type) characters specializing in one or two schools. Guidance: Friends cantrip would be there for the enchanters.

unhappy at the way in which we lost individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?
tell them you don't like features disappeared quietly in the night: providefeedback!
Remove Humanoid and add target with Int 8+ SO I can try to befriend fey, (some character class) or maybe an animal I want to move past. (Maybe a list of types immune but creature types that would be normal NPCs in an adventure I would like SOME CHANCE to befriend them than none.
Remove Makeup as material component. I do not want to put on lipstick before (material) and Kiss (Somatic) a target to befriend them. Replace Material with Verbal. Making placating gestures and soft-spoken tone to befriend target.

You're not befriending them, you are magically manipulating their mind to force them to be nice to you. If you want to befriend an NPC try talking to them.

Not sure where you're getting the "kiss" part from (or lipstick, really; makeup is something else as I understand the types of cosmetics). A somatic component is hand gestures, and distinctive Dr. Strange style ones at that. A soft tone and placating gestures don't really work either; the idea behind V and S components is to make the casting clearly distinct from typical mundane actions. It's not written but pretty well assumed for charm spells that in the same vein as the Jedi Mind Trick targets who fail the save don't process the completely incongruous action you did just prior to convincing them these aren't the droids they're looking for.
Regarding creature types; it's the same deal as Hold Person vs Hold Monster etc.; low level enchantments don't work against non-humanoids. In particular, you really think it makes sense to charm the Fey with a cantrip?
Honestly, all the more covert charm spells could use a bit more clarification on what happens after the effect ends, just so there's a baseline expectation when people are deciding if they want to take the spells.
