I had a idea to make a character based off Mike Honely (old timey manly man boxer meme) and it was a homebrewed subclass for fighter that basically enhances the tavern brawler feat. i was thinking of making him a "jolly good bloke" kind of character. and even tho the subclass adds in wrestiling and kicking i feel like he might end up being really bland and just punches stuff. but it's my first ever character i made myself. so i really wanna play it. is there any way i could make him more interesting or reduce how bland he might be?
Not sure how the homebrew works, exactly, so I may be wrong, but I’m not sure why it would be bland. Most fighters, at their base, just “punch” stuff, if you replace “punch” with “hit them with my weapon of choice” but the subclasses give them some interesting tricks to add on to it. Could be the homebrew subclass is the boring part.
You could just take one of the other subclasses and take the tavern brawler feat, your damage die will be lower, but you’ll still have the other subclass abilities. Or, and I’m assuming you thought of this but I’ll put it out there, just go monk.
