I have a question about editing/creating homebrew weapons. I have a magic scimitar that I want to be 1d8 damage instead of 1d6 and I'm having a very difficult time making it work properly. I've tried various combinations. I set Replace Damage Type to slashing and put 1 in the die count and d8 in the die roll boxes. I tried to remove the die count box, to change the damage type to piercing, to change the stat to Dex but none of the combinations give me what I'm looking for.
When I changed the damage type to piercing it worked, but it still said 1d6 piercing. I need it to be 1d8 slashing and for some reason it's being infuriatingly difficult. Does anyone know where I went wrong with it?
This isn't helpful to your question; but I'm noticing that the only d8 weapons that do slashing damage are also versatile. I can understand why designers wouldn't have a d8 weapon with light and finesse properties (and also know there's probably plenty of folks who would want that design element different), but I'm curious why there isn't a d8 slasher that isn't versatile, or why some d8 bludgeons and piercers lack the d10 versatility.
But I'm wondering if there's some deeper rule in the "magic weapon" work around that prevents a light/finesse weapon taking on a d8 for two weapon fighting balance reasons.

Not completely sure but I wasn't able to change the damage die at all, even to a lower die. I looked through some old threads and I guess this isn't an option at all. However, I used a recommendation someone posted to use the rapier as the base weapon for the d8 and then change the damage type and properties to match the scimitar. It works, but it just has rapier in the weapon description which is somewhat annoying.
So you were able to take rapier, and switch it to slashing damage with the finesse and light properties (giving you a dual wieldable d8 slasher?). I think as long as what you name it has scimitar in it your player shouldn't be bothered too much.

Correct, I was able to use rapier as a base and modify it to look like a scimitar. However, it automatically applies a description of the weapon in the notes so it still says rapier on the page, just not in the title xD
