So while I was looking for ways to add in my own mundane weapons and make small tweaks to existing mundane weapons, I discovered a couple of things. The first thing, and most obvious, being that dndbeyond currently does not have any way to create our own mundane items. The second and more interesting part being that in my search, I came across a post from 2018 where one of the dndbeyond staff I believe actually said this was a planned feature they were hoping to bring in at some point. So now my question is: when? I understand if it's not super high priority or anything, but do we have any idea of some kind of timeline on this?
Timeline? No. There's been a lot of changes in direction and also a swap-out of the entire development staff since 2018.
The usual workaround is simply to make the item a Common magic item and tell the player it's not actually magic. Alternatively, there's an "Add Custom Item" button for smaller, simpler stuff in the Equipment section of the inventory tab. Neither is a flawless fit, but between the two of them you can usually make do.

Darn, unfortunately neither of those really works for what I'm trying to do. Didn't realize there had been such a large change in development and staff since 2018, I don't come to the forums a lot lol. Well, hopefully it's still somewhere on the agenda.
What are you trying to do? There may be a way to sort it, however jank the sorting is
Trying to add in a couple of new weapons and tweak the existing whip a little bit, managed to get the others in easily enough by just reskinning weapons that use the same damage dice basically, just took a battle axe and customized the name in the inventory screen. But I'm trying to make a slightly better version of the whip, namely by giving it 1d6 slashing damage instead of just 1d4, but there's no way I can figure out to change the damage dice to a d6 and still be able to actually have it work correctly on the characters sheet. Probably just going to have to give a permanent extra +2 to it's damage or something.
There's currently no way to change the original damage dice of a weapon. You can replace its damage type, i.e. turn slashing into fire, but you can't make the base 1d4 any bigger. You can add dice, but currently the only known kludge for changing a weapon's base damage die is to use an entirely different weapon with the desired damage die - a scimitar, in this case - and change its properties in the homebrew editor to match the whip. The sheet will still treat it as a scimitar, however, which is annoying. It's a known weakness in DDB's magnificently godawful homebrew tools.
You're generally better off instructing your players to create custom actions on their sheet for things like this. Have them create an Enhanced Whip Attack that deals the damage you want. If the whip is particularly complicated you're going to need a combination of custom action and modified item to get it to work, depending on what other traits this enhanced whip has.

Yeah, I might just give it a few extra perks instead of the boosted damage dice, since it's supposed to be a magical weapon anyway. Would love to have a base version of it as well for them to try, but I'll just make the magical version and have them find it later on in the game, tweak it a little to make up for the lower damage dice. Thanks for the help and ideas though!
