I'm new to D&D, I'm a boardgamer at heart, and I'm just exploring everything there is to offer here.
The other day I started playing a newly released board game called Clank Legacy: Acquisitions Incorporated. It's a fantastic game and it has some interesting and fun story elements. If you've never heard of it, then it's definitely worth a play.
For those who don't know what a legacy game is it's basically a game that you play multiple times, and each play furthers an overall story. The board can change and mutate by adding stickers, and cards within the game can be named, and may also be literally torn up depending on player choices. I'm three games into what I believe is a ten game campaign, but at the end of the ten games I'll be left with a board game that is unique to my play group. It's a really great experience, especially watching one of my friends cringe every time we get to destroy something.
Anyway, the thing that struck me most was the stories that are unfolding within the game and how they could easily be used as great inspiration for creating some encounters within our own D&D campaigns. I know Acquisitions Incorporated is based in D&D ,but I find it fun that D&D inspires AI, which in turn inspires Clank, which finally inspires me for my own D&D content. Does anyone else have any other boardgames that they've used, or are thinking of using, as a point of inspiration for your campaigns or one-shots?
