Hi folks.. I was wondering if there is a way to allow players to choose a feat during character creation? I'm not referring to the variant human option, but literally a way for every character to select a feat at level one in the character creator?
As noted in the linked post above, you can trade out an ASI at later levels for a feat and just manually adjust the stats, however that doesn’t help you st level 1.
One thing you can try is creating a magic item, specifically a wondrous item, and have it grant the feat they want as the modifier.
In my experience, you have to select a specific feat for the item to grant because if you select “Choose a feat” as the modifier for the item, they never get to make the choice. So, you’ll need to create an item for each character.
I would suggest giving it one charge so that it shows up in the Limited Use area. That way the player can easily see it.
Another option that I haven’t tested yet, but could work, is to make a homebrew race that grants a feat. Use the base race as the template and just add the ability to choose a feat in there.
I hadn't thought about creating Homebrew races with a Bonus Feat, so I just made one, Gnome with Bonus Feat, and ran through creation. Worked wonderfully! Excellent idea!

Awesome, good to know it works!

Currently, no, you cannot do this.
Here is a post where they were talking about how it might be coming in the near future, though!

Out of progression feats and proficiencies were confirmed to be coming with the Character Sheet revamp in the latest Dev livestream.
We should get more info on the revamp this Thursday, unless they release the revamp on the day or on Friday.

Thanks for the quick replies... That's good to hear it might be coming.
