Hey, do u guys think there's going to be any new playable races, i think this is the perfect book to throw in any playable races that didn't fit into any of the themed books.
also seeing the adverts for planescape i see a fox like creature, could that be a new playable race?
From what they’ve announced, player-facing content amounts to 2 backgrounds and 7 feats. Also a few magic items.
Probably, similar to other releases, they’re being hesitant with new subclasses until they get 1D&D dialed in a bit more, so they don’t print something that gets made obsolete in a year. But that’s just my speculation.

While I understand to a point, this doesn't mesh well with their claims of backwards compatibility.
If it's fully backwards compatible, nothing should be made obsolete. (And if enough gets made obsolete, few people will adopt the new system.)
The 'fox-like creature' in question is associated with the adventure included in the set. It is very likely Shemeshka the Marauder, an individual of note in Sigil dating back to the original AD&D Second Edition release. Shemeshka is an Arcanaloth, one of the more powerful kinds of Yugoloth, so it's rather doubtful that we'll see playable fiends, much less high ranking ones.
Unfortunately, from the pre-release content, we're not getting any new race or class options in the Planescape book-set, just two new backgrounds, seven feats and some new spells.

It just depends on your definition.
It's still backwards compatible if you can use your 5e character with 1D&D adventures and vice versa. Being able to use 1D&D subclasses with 5e classes is actually quite restrictive while being not really necessary.
That's a tangent, so let's get back to Planescape.

If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.

I'd be surprised if they actually bring this back, but one reason we may not be getting character options in Planescape is that a lot of characters, pretty much all casters, might be hit with player character effects from Planescaping. The original 2e Planescape had extensive tables explaining how the spell list worked differently on other planes. Some spells wouldn't work, some were stronger/weaker, some had totally different results. It'd be cool if the book went "leaner" on character options because character impacts will be a lot for tables to get their head around, but that's wishful thinking.

That would be fun. I wish 5e had more of that stuff to make each setting feel more unique.
The "Fox Folk" you mentioned is more likely Shemeska the Maurauder or a similar Arcanaloth NPC. She is a pretty prominant NPC in Planescape, an information broker of sorts if I remember right. Its VERY unfortunate that they didn't introduce any new races (from the D&D Beyond description there just arne;t any) and a continued letdown that bodes not well for the setting. An opportunity to make playable rogue modrons, bariaur (the kind of half dwarf half goat centaurs of Ysgard), the more ferocious lizard folk whose racial name I can;t remember, even a rogue Dabus a good opportunity (trying to talk in symbols floating over your head is a nice character trait). And several other planar races, they couyld have included (I would love to play a ratatoskr the squirrel folks who live in the world tree in particular) but oh well. I can;t say I have come to expect more from Wizard in recent years honestly. Also when do we get the thri-kreen? Do we have to literally wait for them to get around to attempting a watered down (pun intended) version of Dark Sun?

Thri-kreen came out in spelljammer.

They didn't state a playable race in any previews for the book, so don't expect one.
New playable races and new subclasses are generally my favorite options in new books.
This one, as far as I can tell, has neither.
that would be highly disappointing, this is the perfect space for tons of races and sub classes.
