So, I can make custom items and weapons just fine, the problem is that when making a new homebrew weapon you are REQUIRED to select a "base item", and no matter what it appears that base weapon's damage is always showing on the character sheet, with the custom damage values I selected off to the side in grayed out and smaller font, which makes it distracting and easily missable. Is there any way around this?
You want the "Replace Damage Type" modifier, not the "Damage" modifier. That'll let you switch what type of damage the weapon does.
There's currently no player-facing way to change the size or number of damage die for a wrapon. Anything like that has to be done with bonus damage, or by manually editing the weapon's Attack action on the character sheet
