Hey everyone. So I'm going to play Tomb of Annihilation with another 5 friends, all of us been veterans in the game.
Given that the campaign is meant to be the hardest one we've ever played, we all decide to do the most powerful characters we could.
So I've decided to build a Hexadin Spear and Shield build. Right now, we are at level one and intend to do a dragon heist pre-campaign before going to Chult at lvl 5.
My question is if I should take Polearm Master or War Caster first.
I was planing to go 5 lvls into Hexblade, 7 levels into Paladin of Conquest and finish with Hexblade.
Start with Paladin for all weapons and armor profiecencies. Your Dex is quite low so I would go with heavy armor. Next level is Hexblade so you can use Cha for attacks and get EB as ranged alternative.
Another level in Paladin for Dueling Style. Since the campaign caps at 10, a split Pala 8 : Hexblade 2 will allow you to get all ASIs, but you won't get the Pact of the Blade for 2H weapon.
If you are often fighting at range I would take the second level of Hexblade for Agonizing Blast and probably Devil's Sight. If you're mostly in melee I would go until Paladin 8 and only add the second level of Hexblade at the end.
Or if you want to be more sinister, you could go Hexblade 8 after the two Paladin levels. But then you need Warcaster, since the Warlock list is not built around melee combat like the paladin list.
For the ASIs I'd take 2 points in strength for plate armor and some nice combat feat like Sentinel / Polearm Master / Heavy Armor Master. You don't really need Warcaster as Paladin.
If I were minmaxing, I'd want PAM, then warcaster. the reason for that is, when something steps into range of your spear, you get to make an opportunity attack. IMO, that's better than what you get out of warcaster for a hexadin. I'd take warcaster /after/ PAM so that I can use booming blade or greenflame blade for that OA when they step into range.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
For the heat: ask your DM if they would be willing to homebrew an "Endure Elements" spell. In previous editions that was a level 1 spell, lasting 24 hours without concentration that allowed one creature to live comfortably between -50 and 140 Fahrenheit.
If there are homebrewed mechanics for climate, there should also be ways for players to deal with the climate without throwing one third of possible characters out of the campaign.
If it's just about fluff call your plate armor a "Brigandine". They are heavy, offer good protection but are more flexible than plate armor and were worn in some very hot countries in europe (I've experienced more than 100 Fahrenheit in both Italy and Spain).

My only problem with heavy armor is that people told us that the heat of the jungle really works against Heavy Armor =(
