Hello. I am working on a wintery themed subclass for sorcerer, I found a few that others have made that are cool but not quite what I'm looking for, so I'm kinda amalgamating them into my own take. I'm not really thinking about publishing it so don't worry that I'm stealing other people's ideas, this is just for me.
I want the subclass to provide resistance to cold damage, and then at a higher level, grant immunity. I can't really figure out how to have the immunity replace the resistance. I know I can just add them, but then it shows both the resistance and immunity on the character sheet, which rubs me the wrong way even though it is a very small detail. I know how to, for example, scale damage of an attack with the level scaling feature. But I can't figure out if there is a way to turn resistance into immunity.
If anyone knows how to do this, or if you know for certain that this is not possible, I'd be very happy for your help. Thanks for your time
Okay, this looks like its placement should be in Homebrew so likely will be moved there as well..
But to answer your question, if you are doing it in Homebrew, you need to create two separate Features.
The first feature being when they get the feature, you select the drop down under Feature Type as Granted and select your Resistance to Cold as normal.
Then you create a second feature with the level you want the Immunity, this time select Replacement under Feature Type, click the box below and select the Resistance feature its to replace. Set your usual stuff up as Immunity to Cold in the next screen once saved.
Now, most importantly, within the character sheet you have under Character Preferences the following on.
Optional Features - Optional Class Features
And under Class under Optional Feature Management you have the box for the Immunity that replaces the Resistance ticked. If you dont, it wont replace the Resistance.
That should remove the double up of Resistance and Immunity to Cold showing up under that area.
