Hello :D So i'm playing a scourge aasimar barbarian in a campaign i'm in. Shes not designed to survive the campaign because her purpose is to destroy evil beings even if it means destroying herself in the process. So i'm thinking of making an attack that she can use that will use her remaining hit points to just erupt the light force that's in her body. I don't know where to begin on making this kind of attack. Should i start by her exploding getting stronger over the campaign or just have her explode once in a big glorious boom? Any thoughts would be appreciated. :D
Its definitely something you would need to talk to your DM about homebrewing. Personally, when it comes to self sacrifice, blood magic, etc. type abilities, rather than sacrificing your HP I prefer the idea of burning Hit Dice. The benefit is its a finite resource that has a die associated with it. Its something your character will still "feel" as they won't be able to recover HP during a short rest.
For example, if youre a barbarian youre hit die is a d12. You could work something out with your DM where under certain conditions you could spend one of your hit die and add an extra d12 of damage to the attack.

Stuff like "self sacrifice super attack" are more of a narrative thing than a mechanical effect. And homebrew mechanics really aren't something you should be working on without talking to DM.
Hit dice is one way to do it. Casting fireball on yourself is the way the rules often represent explosions.
