With the new MM about to drop, I was excited to see that Bloodied has made a return. Whilst many people would like to pretend 4e never happened it does have a few redeeming features. Bloodied was one, in terms of enemies, I would like to see a return of minions and Swarms, especially in the way they were presented in 4e.
I love features that reduce DM bookkeeping, and these are both great examples. Even if they do not include minions as their own stat block, it would be nice to see some guidance like this "From Character level 5 onwards, give creatures with CR 1/4 or less, 1hp & +2AC, level 11+ you can treat 1/2 CR creatures the same way, and level 17+ you can treat 1 CR creatures this way." CR 0 Creatures should simply only have 1HP right from game start.
Similarly there was a general rule in 4e about the size of swarms, I believe it was 2 size categories, for example a Medium Swarm of Tiny Creatures, or a Large Swarm of Small creatures (e.g. Kobolds or Goblins in Swarms), but you can extrapolate this further to make a Huge swarm of medium creatures (I am thinking zombies, or whole regiments of orcs for instance).
It is these kinds of things that could allow players to feel powerful by fighting potentially hundreds of enemies, without being too burdensome on the DM.
