Hey folks. I'm making some high level magic items for my players in my homebrew campaign, think vestiges of divergence. I have a monk and I'd like to create a glove/gauntlet type item that boosts ac and gives additional fire damage with each hit. Problem is I'm not sure if such a thing is possible. I have made homebrew items in the past but that was your basic armour or weapon. Anyone know if it's doable or has done something similar in the past?
Pretty sure there's no specific modifier for giving added damage to all attacks; item damage boosts are mostly limited to the item itself as far as I'm aware (except for a few very specific modifiers that won't do what you need).
However, what you could do is classify your magic item as a weapon, and choose a bludgeoning monk weapon as the base weapon (like a club). Then if you add your Damage -> Fire and Bonus -> Armor Class (or Unarmored Armor Class) modifiers then equipping (and attuning if necessary) to the weapon this should give you the bonuses alongside a rollable attack (using your Martial Arts dice) that will show the correct bonus damage (though D&D Beyond currently can't roll that, but tools like Avrae and Beyond20 should do).
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.

Awesome, thank you so much for the advice. Definitely seems to be the easiest way to do it.
