I had an idea for a different way of spell slots functioning. Lower level spells that don't change with higher levels still requiring the same one spell slot never made sense to me. I came up with a way for the spell slot system to make more sense.
All spellcasting classes get their normal amount of spell slots. However, instead of casting low level spells at higher levels costing one spell slot regardless of upcasting, you can expend higher level spell slots to regenerate lower level spell slots, with a 1:2 ratio. You can do the inverse, with a 2:1 ratio. This cannot give you more spell slots than your maximum for that level of spell.
I thought this could make spell leveling seem more logical, but I would want feedback on if it would be unbalanced or not fit into the game properly.
Seems fine to me, but be warned that it may step on the toes of the sorcerers. They have their font of magic ability that lets them do this at a worse ratio, so if you use this rule, you may want to consider giving something extra to sorcerers so they don’t feel like their special class ability is no longer special.

I am a swimmer. If you see me running, you should run too, because it means something horrible is chasing me.

I maybe could limit the amount of times you could use it per short/long rest to your spellcasting modifier
