My wife plays a wild magic sorcerer in our Dragon of Icespire Peak campaign. Having several veteran players, I add in a few mechanical changes and homebrew creatures/NPCs. As a wild magic sorcerer, for her, every time she casts a spell using a spell slot, wild magic happens.
In our most recent combat, she cast 3 spells in a row using spell slots. Wild Magic hits: summon 2 flumphs...summon a unicorn (again)...summons a Quadrone. Her character is now confused and wonders why she's a summoner.
This is the 5th time she's summoned a unicorn, she's turned into a Pot of Petunias 4 times. Oh no, not again. Her character is on the path to discover how to turn this random summoning into an intentional summoning.
What's your story as a result of a homebrew/altered mechanic?
I am steadily balancing some homebrew fall damage rules (which take into account acrobatics, constitution, falling or dropping, falling on each other, larger creatures falling on smaller, and so on).
The paladin-artificer ended up jumping from a 300ft. cliff to smite a giant cheese monster who was climbing up it, and using my rules that meant some con saves for both and an attack roll, which came out at natural 20. I winged it for them landing on a soft creature and redivided the damage a bit, and when they rolled the dice, they did 189 damage to the monster (who had 188 max HP) and then left themselves with 1hp left over as they landed in the fondue pot below, which broke a lot of their fall.
It was an epic end to a game which was in danger of overrunning for time, it was so awesome!
One time, I was in a campaign where dad jokes dealt 1d4 psychic damage to all those who heard it (And I had resistance to psychic damage), except to the person who said it. So there was a Warforged player who was in a bar, and the bar person asked what he wanted, and the player next to me said he should ask for Screenshots. He didn’t luckily, but I still want to know what would happen if he did.
