For the 3.5 Edition "Tome of Battle: Book of the Nine Swords" was published introducing the martial maneuvers, a special attack in the middle between at-will and once-encounter, and three new class with this special game mechanic: the crusader, the swordsage and the warblade.
It was an interesting idea, but the fights became slower and more complicated, and now the phylosophy of the 5Ed is to be simple and easy to be understood by the new players.
Some times watching AMV(anime media video) based in wuxia-donghua(Chinese animation about fantasy and martial arts) in youtube I tried to imagine a wuxia version of D&D. Then I remembered the martial adepts.
My suggestion for a faster and simpler fight.
Some effects works when the character spend "aggro points". These are like psionic power points but they are earnt with succesful attacks (even when the enemy doesn't suffer damage thanks resistance or inmunity). After the fight the pool of aggro points returns to be zero.
The maneuvers are reloaded spending ki points. Ki points are like psionic power points but the reload is faster, only with a Concentration check, like getting a psionic focus, or spending a turn only to recover energy...(something like in the arcades when you push the button for a time to launch a stronger attack).
Some maneuvers with spell-life effects are practically spell from arcane, divine or primal magic. Other maneuvers can be as psionic powers.
