"Gut Bomb(s)".
A Gut Bomb is basically just a stomach stuffed with a stick of dynamite sealed with the fuse exposed. The stick of dynamite is lit, then the whole stomach is thrown to a point upto 60ft away. The stomach explodes launching flesh and acid in a five foot radius. Everything within five feet must make a DC 14 Dexterity saving throw taking 3d6 bludgeoning + 2d6 acid damage on a failed save, and half as much on a successful save.
I was also thinking, depending on what creature's stomach is used to make the Gut Bomb, the secondary damage type could be changed.
Had an idea for a type of magical gunpowder, created by mixing the usual stuff with bits of charcoal that have had magical runes inscribed on them. Haven't the foggiest what special effects that would create.
The boring answer is that it makes attacks with bullets magical.
Perhaps it could be more effective for there to be a powder-keg or powder-horn with magical runes inscribed inside that bestows the gunpowder contained inside it with a magical effect. Granting bullets that use the gunpowder as propulsion an additional damage type, the bullets multiply after being fired, home in on the target, or just really whatever you can imagine.
Allow the keg or horn to be refilled with more gunpowder during a short-rest.

Sure, all reasonable suggestions. But when I say i hate boring, what I'm really saying is I'm after the crazy stuff. Here's a crazy new idea. I associate runes with abjuration and conjuration magic. What ties those two together could be binding an outsider. So what if each shot of a firearm with the runepowder binds an outsider to the bullet, making each an intelligent missile?
Here's another couple of magic item ideas.
Gloves of Shadow Puppeteering. A certain number of times per day, resetting at dawn, a player can use the gloves as an action while in dim light to create a shadow puppet on a solid surface. The gloves' magic then animates the shadow puppet into a shadowy form of the creature projected, which becomes more clear (read: stronger) based on a Dex (Sleight of Hand) roll. I could throw together some sample shadow creature stat blocks, but basically just use some random beast blocks with minor alterations.
Grenade of Light Binding. When thrown, this consumable detonates. Within a specified range, all light becomes semi-solid for a duration. Creatures in bright light are restrained. Creatures in dim light have their speed halved. Creatures in darkness are unaffected. A strength check negates.
Magnetic Armor. Gnome-sized plate armor that has two polarities. The first attracts metal, giving advantage to attacks against the wearer with metal weapons, allows the wearer to cling to metal walls, and pulls smaller metal objects to them. The second repels metal, imposing disadvantage on attacks made against the wearer with metal weapons, and makes the local area difficult terrain for other creatures wearing metal armor. Oh, and under either polarity, weird things happen when the wearer takes lightning damage. Maybe the polarity switches, idk.

The Tao Pai Pai Spear;
This is a magical spear that can only be thrown at an upward angle. After being thrown the Spear transforms into a cylinder 5ft long with a 2ft diameter that travels to a location determined by the wielder within 5 miles. Immediately after the spear transforms, the creature that threw it teleports into a surfing position standing on the cylinder. DC 16 acrobatics check not to fall taking (3d6) bludgeoning damage. The cylinder turns to dust on impact causing no damage to anything it hits.
When the lid of this unassuming wooden barrel is even slightly ajar, the barrel belches out ten monkeys per minute, drawing them from the demiplane of Simia. Entire planes of existence have been overrun by monkeys due to a careless opening of such a barrel.
The head of this magical maul is warped spatially, and difficult to look at. Once per day when you make a successful attack, you can activate the maul's dimensional flattening ability. The target takes added force damage and is reduced in dimension for an hour (con save negates). Standard creatures in three dimensions become flat and two-dimensional. This makes them impossibly thin. All of their attacks deal slashing damage, and they find it easier to squeeze through narrow areas. They are, however, only able to see in a straight line, and have difficulty manipulating three-dimensional objects. When used against two-dimensional monsters, like the shadow, the monster becomes one-dimensional. That's when the real madness begins.
