So I have no idea where to truly put this, because it's about character creation and that character isn't one of the available to actually play as so I thought here was the best place.
After asking my DM they are letting me play as a mimic, we've worked some stuff out but there is still more things that need to be worked out. So there are a few questions that I sorta need answered but aren't really all that necessary for gameplay. My first question: what is the average life expectancy of a mimic? And how heavy is the average mimic? (that one might be a little more important to gameplay)
I'll be updating this as more questions arise.
Whatever anyone can help with will be appreciated.
Mimics can be any size. It's assumed that they get bigger the more they eat, I don't know if there's any in-depth descriptions of their life cycles in the dnd lore anywhere! They are more written as a "what a twist!" tool for DM's to make use of, so they could be a house or a ship, or they could be a coin or a goblet. So making one human-sized would probably be more a case of its environment more than its age.
What sort of class are you using, or are you just playing the mimic creature?
something to be aware of, is most Mimics can't Talk. However, there are Mimic Colonies(a thing from Tasha's Cauldron), which have Mimics that communicate, both verbally and telepathically, including their children, which their just willing to dispose of if they think they can't win a fight.
These Juvenile Mimics are Tiny, but can grow over time, i would look into this first and foremost. As for life expectancy, depends on where they are.
I'm playing the mimic as a druid. but seeing how I did manual for stats and kinda left the lowest roll for intelligence, so the mimic isn't really going to have any spells besides wildshape to make it more interesting.

Druids don't need Intelligence to cast spells, their spellcasting is tied to the Wisdom score.
But the idea of a druid is sorta perfect for this character! Haha, Wildshaping Mimic is awesome.
How do you plan to suppress your desire to consume your fellow party members?

I'm probably laughing.
It is apparently so hard to program Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul spell-swapping into dndbeyond they had to remake the game without it rather than implement it.

I have an idea maybe in the characters background have them eat a magic item. It was a extremely rare item but it basically was enchanted with the spell force will and maybe because it's a mimic they stood there like a shadow for the longest time until one day a wizard used detect magic suspicious of the creature and decided to be benevolent and said "this is your only order you must always follow...NEVER EVER harm another adventurer or their party." maybe they lost a son to a mimic and wishes for a brighter future with them.
they reach adulthood at ten but can live to to a century and the average weight is 4,500 pounds. Hope i helped.
Where'd ya learn that?

This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..? I’m a hobbit, and the master cranial imploder of the "Oops, I Accidently Destroyed Someone's Brain" cult. Extended sig. I'm actually in Limbo, it says I'm in Mechanus because that's where I get my WiFi from. Please don't tell the modrons, they're still angry from the 'Spawning Stone' fiasco. No connection to Dragonslayer8 other than knowing them in real life.

Untrue. Many mimics can speak, and not just those in a colony.

Well, if I were the DM I would decide that the weight would be dependent on their current form, with them being rather heavy in their true form, and that they would have a relatively short lifespan and no point where they become an adult (I’d say some form of reproduction such as splitting or becoming an object with multiple parts or something. Perhaps it’s aesexual and the coins in their chest form are their children [which also explains the cliche of them being a chest]).

Ok I agree with the idea of the weight rule but also we need a size cape with them say they can only go up to large monsters in size shifting. I slightly debate the short life span but i like the aesexual factor.

Their stats don’t change when they shapeshift, so they can only become a medium object.

To help explain some of the questions that have been asked, it's backstory time!
So the mimic was raised on a farm, being used to dispose of excess food that couldn't be stored or sold [for Ravnodaus]. and one day a druid adventurer showed up and requested lodging for the night, the next day the druid left and the mimic snuck off with them. Conveniently, it was around the time for some grassland druids to meet for they're circle ritual whatever and the mimic joined in and became a druid. the mimic didn't really get much of the fun stuff but was (cautiously) accepted into druidship [for Greco].

hmmm ok i like it but what about the rest of their adventures how does one truly keep sustained do you just have to cast a spell of saturation so they you know don't get the munchies for team members. also wait they were raised on a farm....now all i can see is like the barn house paint job on there chest idk why but it makes me smile.
They mature within few years. So basically within 5 years they reach state considered adulthood for them. By this time their size changes from tiny to medium. They don't grow beyond that and they weigh about 4,500 lbs .
They don't have a set lifespan or at least it was never officially mentioned. If I remember correctly in older editions you could find one even centuries old.
But the older they get the more intelligent they become, by lore they can be as intelligent as a barbarian, so enough to have normal conversations but not to the point of a scholar.
Also while they are carnivorous and search for food when they can, one human meal is enough for a week for them. So one ration consisting of meat is enough for them to not suffer from starvation for 21 days.
