So I had this idea for a caster. They had spent some time in their youth being trained as an eldritch knight, but not wanting to be any kind of fighter, they ran away. Later, their Sorcerer side emerged, or their Mage training came to fruition. This subclass should work fine for both. Also, I wanted this subclass to be REALLY simple, taking up little room on your character sheet.
Initial (or level 3) : (Sorcerer) 1 free Evocation and 1 free Abjuration spell per spell circle known. : (Mage) 1/2 price to inscribe Evocation and Abjuration spells in your spell-book. Level 3 : Unarmored Defence. PB+(CHA or INT mod), Dex not included, does not stack with other unarmored defence abilities. Level 6/7 : (CHA or INT mod) adds to evocation damage Level 14/11 : Advantage on saving throws against spell effects Level 18/15 : Advantage on ranged spell attacks to hit
(levels are for 5e/ToV)
There ya go. No complexities needed. Just go and kick ass.

When faced with an issue, most people would rather be negative than find a solution.
