My party will be running a campaign where they are looking for ancient artifacts that were stolen and then sold throughout the world. as they find more artifacts they will become more powerful. there will be 5 levels. level 1 is 1 artifact, level 2 is 3 artifacts, level 3 is 8 artifacts, level 4 is all 12 artifacts, level 5 will be when they return the artifacts to the owner and he performs a ritual on them. Im looking to see if anyone thinks that they are too OP, and see if anyone has any other thoughts. the artifacts are from the labors of Hercules.
The 9 vial of lernaean hydra fire
does 1d6 fire damage per artifact level
Golden Hind of Artemis daggers
add 1 attack and damage per artifact level
Rope from Cretan Bull
adds 1 strength per artifact level, anyone bound by must roll 1 additional roll to escape
Milk from The Cattle of Geryon
does 2d4+2 healing per artifact level, use able 1 time per artifact level
Augean’s poop veil
when applied does 1d4 poison damage per artifact level useable 1 time a day per artifact level
Belt of Hippolyta
roll 1d6 grants +1 per artifact level, to a attribute rolled lasts all day day (level 1 roll 1d6, +1 to that attribute, level 2 artifacts, roll 2d6, pick from those two, and add 2.)
Braided Hair of Cerberus
a braid of hair, when a friendly character’s HP is reduced to 0 on their next turn they get up with 10 HP per artifact level
Erymanthian Boar Mask
slows time, allows for: level 1 one more reaction, level 2 or one more movement, level three attack per round, level four any two, level 5 one more to all three. or can give an additional sorcerer point
Nemean’s skin
A golden lion fur armor +1 to armor class per artifact level
Bronze bridle of Thrace
a bridle made of bronze gives +1 on animal handling checks, +1 on attacks of animals per artifact level
Athena's Rattle
when the rattle is shook, anyone hiding/sneaking must roll a constitution check of 13+ artifact level, otherwise they run half their speed away from person holding the rattle, +1 attack with all bows for 1 rounds after shaking per artifact level
Golden Apple of the Hesperides
You can take 1 bight a day, when bight, you gain 1d4 dice temp hit points per artifact level.
To be honest I don't really understand this artefact level mechanics. So each item can be of a different level, is that it? What constitutes this level?
The point of reference should always be the standard typology of items - common/uncommon/rare/very rare/legendary. So as I understand it, you can get a dagger +1 and scale it up to dagger +5? In what span of time?
There is a homebrew mechanics by /u/AeronDrake (reddit) called Evolving Items. It might work here, however instead of just scaling it by +1/+2/+3 etc., you might want to build some more lore and flavour each one of them.
