I've got it in mind to create a Greatsword weapon (technically a Katana), but I'm not sure I can create it with the properties I'm after:
The katana borrows the properties of the Vorpal Greatsword, using it as a template.
The katana has advantage on attacks rolls.
The katana is made of adamantine, so it can always critically strike.
The vision I have is that the katana will be a sword that can cut through almost anything, like real-world diamonds, which can cut anything, but can only be cut by themselves. This also brought up an interesting point; should an adamantine weapon be able to ignore the crit-protection of adamantine armour?
Likewise, some real-world katanas have been known to break the blades of other swords. Could this be represented somehow? I'd imagine magical weapons being somewhat resistant to this effect.
If need be, I could just make a Vorpal Greatsword that is made of adamantine and call it a day. Unless, there's another way to accomplish my goal?
Well, in my current campaign the DM awarded one of the players a sword that destroys non-magical weapons held by an enemy on a crit. So I think it would be fair to include that. Although that would be kind of redundant with this weapon, since a Vorpal weapon cuts off an opponent's head on a 20. ...Maybe have the detail that rolling a 19 destroys non-magical weapons.
Although for clarification, adamantine only gives a guaranteed crit when striking non-worn/carried objects. Against opponents it still lands crits as normal.
I'm also of the mindset that adamantine armor would block crits from adamantine weapons for that reason, since there aren't guaranteed crits from adamantine against creatures and there's no mention of adamantine overcoming protections in that manner.
Although since this is homebrew, if you just want to include the detail of "critical strikes from this sword deal full critical damage, even against opponents in adamantine armor", then you can go ahead and include that as well..
