If I wanted to create a type of permanent shifting race, is there a way to do that? Now, when I say permanent shifter, what I mean is a shifter that isn't limited by time. As with how the were-monsters work, or how the vampire can shift into a bat with no time-limit.
Of course, I know how the monsters are done. They just list the ability in the description, with how it changes AC and movement speed and such, with the info also listed in the statblock (like how the werebear has both its humanoid ac and its bear/hybrid ac). That is not really what I want. I want my player to be able to hit a button that changes the stats according to the difference between the base and the shifted form.
A dragon that can shift into a dragonborn is my specific example. I want the dragonborn to have their +2 strength +1 charisma, but I want the dragon to have +2 strength +1 constitution instead. Is there a way to do that? I couldn't find it, and I honestly doubt it, as it seems rather complex, but I'd be curious to see if I might have missed something.
An alternative solution I've found is adding the dragon stats as an extra, so that the player can find the stat block whenever they want, but that is less elegant, and if the HP changes with lvl up, then I'd have to change the stat block for the dragon every time, or just have it as a number for the player to calculate themselves based on player level.
Now that my main question is out of the way, I just want some quick side questions. Is there a way to change the unarmed attack into something else? Couldn't find it myself. Adding a natural weapon just added it next to the unarmed attack. I'll admit I didn't look very hard for the answer here, but since I'm already making a post.
And just formatting. Whenever I add a paragraph, it adds the formatting so that the space between lines is wider. Can I not change lines without adding the extra space? Removing the formatting just removed the line change, or the formatting appeared automatically again.
In short, you can't. 'Toggable' features have been requested for the longest time. Think of like toggling a feature like barbarian rage where it automatically adds the resistance and damage bonus. Maybe its something that would be added at the homevrew class creator or character sheet revamp?
Best way to go is like you said, add that creature in the extra section.
Otherwise look how the bew bloodhunter - order of the lycan transformation has been implemented. Its not so streamlined (meaning you need to go edit your character every time) but it gets the job done pretty decently

So, this is really only a question, nothing else.
