"The mire of Gloomstalk can be a treacherous place. Regarded as a domain best avoided notwithstanding your assumed talent and skills, adventurer. Despite the many rumors and even more foreboders, there does exist a commune beyond the bog. Not many traders take the risk of shepherding their wares through the dark thickets and menacing canopies. There's no indication of what has beset these once idyllic groves, and even less is known about what has now taken up residency in such a place."
"But please. By all means, sate your curiosity."
Greetings,
I am a Novice Dungeon Master looking to get his feet wet in a collaborative storytelling experience. Though there will be an established arc or theme to the campaign, I'd like to incorporate the unique backstories of player characters in interesting ways to elevate the overall narrative for the main campaign(s). The current title doesn't necessarily encompass the full campaign rather the first installment of a much larger saga. With all that has been said, I do want to press that this is not meant to be a campaign that we'd try to rush to completion; it's meant for storytelling and an enjoyable roleplaying experience.
Players can utilize the sources under the Resource listing, but the story comes before character creation. So, I'd recommend not creating a Character for this campaign until your enrollment is accepted and you receive a bit more info regarding Player Expectations and relevant lore. We will also discuss elements of our playstyles and see where we converge, and of course, we must address any concerns you may have with concept and content. (To be clear, the gritty tone won't venture beyond fantasy violence and some gruesome creatures your characters may face.) 21+ is required for this campaign due to that alone.
I'm afraid I, too, am a victim of "adulting," so I am forced to work a full-time job. Oh! The horror!
So, scheduling...
Bi-Weekly Sunday (Required)
This is obviously so I have time for game prep. :)
Session Zero:
This Will be scheduled once we obtain at least 4 approved applicants; it may not be immediate, but I will try to check in with all those involved once an agreement on a timeline is made. Let me stress this game will not begin immediately. I wish to leave enough time for interested parties to apply, so be warned it is not first-come, first-serve. If you are looking to get into a pickup game or a game with urgency, this one might not be ideal.
Session Zero goes over the Party dynamic and possible collaboration on character backgrounds. This time is also perfect for bringing up any questions about sourcebooks, pacing, and technical questions about the tools needed for play. You may either roll or utilize Standard Array for your ability scores during Session Zero.
Novice to Expert level players are welcome but keep in mind Combat isn't the only focus here. Role-play may even take center stage quite often. But, there will be combat throughout the story, just not every session, in theory.
Preferred Player Count:
4-5 is my preferred party size.
Genre:
It starts as horror lite with a mystery undercurrent but eventually opens up into high fantasy. With that said, this theme can and may vary throughout the campaign according to locations, quests, and Player Character arcs.
Resources (Purchase not Required):
Dungeons & Dragons 5E Dungeon Masters Guide
Dungeons & Dragons 5E Player Handbook
Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Volo's Guide to Monsters
Xanathar's Guide to Everything
MCDC's Strongholds and Followers
(Be advised there are Limitations and Restrictions to certain Race Options ask DM for specifics)
(Homebrew/Unearthed Arcana Requests should be submitted as early as possible if the request will play a factor in if you wish to join the campaign or not. These requests will be under great scrutiny, especially in terms of power level and theme.)
There will be a bit of crunch in this campaign. The DM intends to handle experience tracking behind the scenes. However, players must appropriately track Rations, Ammunition, Currency, Inventory, and Components (With a gold cost). I have a very low tolerance for cheating. I can forgive mistakes, but if there is a pattern of abuse with these responsibilities, it will disqualify you from your slot.
