Looking for players in Greater London to fill out a group for a mystery-flavoured, roleplay-oriented campaign in an 18th century French Urban Gothic setting. DM and current players have some acting or voice acting experience. Others with at least some acting experience will be preferred. If interested or have questions, PM or post below.

Game: D&D 5e Group type: Face-to-face Experience: DM experienced; one current player experienced; other two current players relatively new; more than happy for either new or veteran D&D players Location/Timezone: Greater London Schedule: Once every two weeks on weekends, but possibly willing to change that to fit other schedules Roles sought: Players, 1–3 Game style: Long-term campaign, mystery-flavoured, roleplay-oriented, home-steeped occult 18th century French Urban Gothic inspired setting, 18+.
Could you say a bit more about 'occult French Urban Gothic inspired'?
Inspired by Eugene Sue, J-K Huysmans, Honoré de Balzac and others like them, but with a heavier occult/arcane element than some of these writers' works.
'Home-steeped'?
Well, I prefer tea. (I actually don't like the terms 'homebrewed' and 'home-steeped', which always give me the impression of a setting taped together in someone's garage (of course, not all non-official settings are going to be like this). I developed our setting over a year in collaboration with a couple of writers who are moderately known on the London genre literary scene and happen to be close friends.)
Do I HAVE to have acting experience?
No, of course not. I hope to run a one or two hour 'roleplaying encounter' with each new player. This will give me a chance to get to know you a bit, and you a chance to see if you like our style of game and get to know me a bit. (It's more that our acting interests influence the style of game we enjoy, and that I figure that those who share those interests are more likely to enjoy it along with us.)
I've readied a number of pre-made characters for those who don't want to sink too much time into character creation before 'checking us out'. (They will, of course, still be welcome to make their own characters afterwards.)
How much time will I have to create my character?
We're on a 'pause' before starting a new campaign. You'll have lots of time.
What can I expect in terms of gameplay?
The Dungeon Master's Guide sections on 'intrigue' and 'mystery' (p. 40) give good indications of our campaign's flavour. On top of that, our main interest—what thrills us about D&D—is roleplaying characters. So, while there is of course sometimes combat (and sometimes player actions lead to unexpected combat), we also sometimes go whole adventures/mysteries/arcs without a fight. If you're a hack-and-slash aficionado or prefer more combat-focused campaigns, this might not be the campaign or group for you. (Then again, I wouldn't be averse to a swashbuckling former aristocrat, or a soldier who has just returned from his eight years conscription, as long as their player were present enough in the character and world to realise that in an urban setting going around solving every problem with violence is likely to end in legal authorities trying and guillotining the character, and act as if those are real consequences.)
There is a good mix of seriousness and humour at the table (though some of the humour is pretty character-driven).
How will I get more information for character creation?
By referring to a 'player wiki' I set up for this (which I'll send you a link and password to), or by asking me.

What level are the PCs right now?
5.
Is there anything else I should know?
We would prefer if you're at least eighteen.
There is now one spot left.
