Game: D&D 5e(as we are still very new to D&D) Group preferred: Online Experience: New Location/Timezone: East Coast, USA(EST) Availability: Weekdays after 6pm. Weekends open availability. Preferred role: Player Game style: Not entirely sure, as we are still new. We enjoy a good bit of Roleplay and Story, so it doesnt HAVE to be combat focused.
Hey, I am running a campaign with 1 player that would really benefit from a few new players. We play over discord voice and use DnD Beyond for character sheets. Any relevant maps (few) are posted to the discord channel. Mostly I rely on theatre of the mind, as characters wouldn't have maps in front of them. We're totally fine with taking a moment to review positioning in combat if you need. Just ask!
Right now it's just him and DMPC (DM controlled Player Character that basically follows his lead - so he has a chance in combat but can still RP his own way) due to scheduling issues with the original group of 2 others. We are playing through the essentials kit, currently about 3/4 of the way through Dragons of Icespire Peak with 2 level 5 characters - a half-orc barbarian and a goliath fighter. We are both new-ish to DnD (about 15 sessions experience), and so other new players are very welcome.
If you're interested, I'd be happy to play through a session to see if we'd be a good fit. In the first session we'd walk through character creation - any class/build is fine and I can help if you need it, or sit quietly if you're good to go. We generally require some RP to go along with the build, but nothing intense. For example, one character's backstory is that he is a "celebrity" chef looking for the best ingredients from around the realms for his new restaurant. Another player is a very serious Paladin who smites evil and brooks no nonsense. Then we will play a one-shot adventure to create a backstory for why you end up in the same location as the party and are willing to help. You would start as level 1 and level up to 3 by the time you greet the party.
Our schedule is generally 1 night during weekdays 8-11:00pm central time and then 1 weekend day for a 2-4 hours session based on availability. It's somewhat fluid, but we can adapt to fit others' schedules within that framework as needed.
Playstyle is very sandbox, but based on the rulebooks. Every encounter can be achieved through RP or combat, though some are geared toward one or the other. XP is awarded regardless of how the outcome is reached. Bonus XP is awarded for doing awesome things or flawlessly completing a quest/dungeon. We hold as closely as reasonable to the rules, but bend things so that they make a bit more sense in-world or for the rule of cool. Two examples: 1) drinking a potion is a bonus action rather than a full action, since it seems reasonable to be able to attack then take a shot of healing juice 2) during a battle earlier today, a player asked if they could turn an oil lantern into an improvised molotov cocktail to cook a room full of giant rats. Technically this probably wouldn't work, but I allowed it because, damn, what a cool and exciting idea. Everything caught on fire. We almost all died. Everyone had a great time. The #1 goal is that we all have fun in every session. There are few other small homebrew changes that we would discuss during the first session (all minor changes).
If you're interested just send me a DM on here or ever better, message me on Discord: Dr. God#3469
