When I first heard of dungeon crawls, I was instantly excited. The thought of deftly defying traps, hunkering down for rest, and avoiding tough enemies in the name of powerful loot seriously excited me. It was much to my dismay, however, when I realized that many dungeon crawls were not played that way, and simply were hack-and-slash. I wanted to throw some roleplay into the mix and make it a lot more immersive than just a "I check down this hallway...now I go down the next...". My solution was "Dungeon of the Mad Mage: Hard Mode"
This game is essentially Dungeon of the Mad Mage, but more immersive and tactical. Gone are the days of saying, "I'll just pay a few gold to get materials delivered to us". Now, players must carefully ration their supplies to make sure they won't starve, dehydrate, or over-encumber themselves. Encounters have now turned from a hack-and-slash to a decision of "do I kill them, or can I make an ally?". The goal of this game is to have fun and encourage players to get creative with their classes abilities, grow as players, and to look at Dungeon Crawls in a new light.
I have been professionally DMing for the past 2 years online, beginning when the pandemic struck. I have worked with introducing new players to the game, helping intermediate players grow more comfortable, and allowing veteran players to let their knowledge shine. I have "Content Share" enabled on DnDBeyond, so players would be accessing over $350 worth of content (plus a cool campaign) for a small fee.
Here is some of the templated information:
Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online (Discord to roll and audio-chat, Roll20 for maps) Experience: Intermediate experience and +. Whatever that means to you! Location/Timezone: I am primarily in EST but will be moving to CST over the summer. Schedule: I'm hoping for maybe one or two meetings a week? It's totally down to the group's preference and schedule though, I am very flexible. Roles sought: I am looking for anywhere from 4-6 players. Game style: This will be a hardcore dungeon crawl that leans on narrative play. The goal is that players lean on their class/racial abilities to creatively overcome solutions.
Session Information-
Once you guys get approved, you'd join the server and together we would come up with a time to have a session 0 and session 1. Once forming a solid group, I would invite you all to a Roll20 campaign to begin playing. Limited experience with that Roll20 and Discord's Avrae dice bot is totally okay, technology can be difficult sometimes. Sessions would last 2 hours with a 10 minute break, and we can step away from the game if things get to heavy trigger-wise.
Character Creation-
Stats will be rolled on Discord using the Avrae bot, and the character should be level 5. A backstory about why their character is going to the dungeon is also necessary, though that can be created after discussing characters with the group in a session 0. Characters will be created with the starting equipment, be granted 50 gold to spend on things before the game begins (though run it past the DM, please), and have an uncommon item (also approved by the DM).
Pay-
I charge $8 per 2 hour sessions. I used to use PayPal to charge but realized it would tax players, so I switched to *****. The session 0 and session 1 are completely free, and are a trial run. If you decide to back out after that, there's no hard feelings or bad blood! From Session 2 and beyond, I ask that players ***** me before the session.
Contact-
If you're interested in what I have to offer and want to learn more, or put in an application to join the game, please message me on Discord at ImYourThirdDad#4852! You can also contact me here, but chances are I won't see your message until a little later.
