Thousands of years ago, ancient clans of dwarves and gnomes made an agreement known as the Phandelver's Pact, by which they would share a rich mine in a wondrous cavern known as Wave Echo Cave. In addition to its mineral wealth, the mine contained great magical power. Human Sorcerers allied themselves with the dwarves and gnomes to channel and bind that energy into a great forge (called the Forge of Spells), where magic items could be crafted. Times were good, and the nearby human town of Phandalin prospered as well. But then disaster struck when orcs swept through the North and laid waste to all in their path.
A powerful force of orcs reinforced by an evil wizard attacked Wave Echo Cave to seize its riches and magic treasures. Human wizards fought alongside their dwarf and gnome allies to defend the Forge of Spells, and the ensuing spell battle destroyed much of the cavern. Few survived the cave-ins and tremors, and the location of Wave Echo Cave was lost.
For centuries, rumours of buried riches have attracted treasure seekers and opportunists to the area around Phandalin, but no one has ever succeeded in locating the lost mine. In recent years, people have resettled the area. Phandalin is now a rough-and-tumble frontier town. More important, the Rockseeker brothers—a trio of dwarves-have discovered the entrance to Wave Echo Cave, and they intend to reopen the mines.
Welcome to The Dark Mines of Phandelver: My name is Adam, and I have been DMing for D&D 5e for 4 years now and love being a DM, as it has helped me with my passion for professional voice acting over the years and allowed me to spend time with some enjoyable people and create fantastical memories! I got in via Critical Role when introduced to me at Uni and fell in love with the show and with the game! :D
Ive ran this module a few times by the book and would like to DM it again with my own take to it this time, thus will be only slightly different from the module (e.g maps will be changed, may be more encounters, NPC's etc).
So before you apply, please see the below changes and rules (oh, and apologies for the all caps below, I just can't seem to put anything on bold on here!):
The Theme is LOW MAGIC, DARK FANTASY and SWORD AND SORCERY, but still set in Forgotten Realms (so think of Lord of the Rings and Conan the Barbarian). Magic is rare and the Gods are distant, even to their most devout, making mages and spellcasters not only a rarity, but they also make people wary of their intent. This is a ROLEPLAY HEAVY campaign, but when there's combat, it'll be proper combat! MATURE CONTENT, please be over 18 when applying. This campaign will go from level 1 to level 5 but with the potential of going up to 7.
In terms of character creation: PHB and XGE races, classes, backgrounds and subclasses only (may allow SCAG upon approval).
No Homebrew/UA at all and no artificer. No optional/alternate rules from TCE and no multiclassing.
Hello 👋, I'm a very new dm and am trying to run lmop with a similar dark fantsy tone/genre to what you were saying and was wondering if you wouldn't mind telling me some of the changes you made of the ideas you used.
Thanks very much, all help would be greatly greatly appreciated, thanks.
