A month ago, it started as a minor infestation around the market district. Rats, many small ones, but reports came in of a few of the larger variety. The town guard was sent in to investigate, but they turned up nothing out of the ordinary. Several fire mages (Wizards and Sorcerers) were sent in to clear them out, and while they enjoyed a modicum of success, killing or trapping close to a hundred of the vile things, it was just the beginning. Soon, rats were being seen in the clothing district, on jewelers' row, in and around the market district, and even down at the docks along the river. A young man, no more than 14 years, swears he saw a man turn into a rat, who then summoned up an army of rats that descended on the market district, consuming anything that wasn't locked up and secured, and getting into some of the choicer locked containers.
The Mayor of Arabel put forth a bounty: 1SP per rat captured or slain, 3SP per female, and 5GP for any were-rats. 10,000GP for their known leader, Gnawbones, a known were rat formerly of Neverwinter.
Have you what it takes to stop Gnawbones, before he levels Arabel?
This is a 3rd level game, designed for ALL skill levels.
All classes are permitted, and most races too, but don't be surprised if the locals look at your Goliath or Fairy with arched eyebrows...
Standard Array for stat generation. No Chaotic Neutral alignments, and everyone starts with a Handy Haversack. No Shapeshifters or Changelings allowed.
I'm replacing the spell slot system with Spell Points. The formula for calculating your available Spell Points (SP) is as follows: Primary Attribute Bonus (Int, Wis or Cha) + Your Level times Your Proficiency Bonus (So, a 2nd level Wizard, for example, with an Int of 18, would have (4+2) x 2= 12 Spell Points. Spells cost a number of Spell Points equal to their Level (So, Fireball would cost 3, while Power Word Kill would cost 9) If you cast a spell at a higher level, the cost becomes that higher level, however. Dual/Multi use the Dominant Attribute to determine Spell Points.
Spell Point Recovery:
Short Rest: Attribute Modifier + Prof Bonus Long Rest: All Spell Points.
And spells that require only a single component, either a Verbal or Somatic component, can be cast as a bonus action, not a full action. AND I'm eliminating spell components except for the most powerful spells. If a spell requires a component of 1000gp or higher, you still require it, but for everything else, you just need an arcane focus.
If you have another race choice, I could find you a seat, but I'm trying to keep this about D&D. I don't allow Artificers either because of the Guns in D&D problem.
