Game style: RP Heavy, High Fantasy, political intrigue
The Isle of Kings, known for its many kingdoms that have been allied in peace for a long long time, senses catastrophe on the horizon. Luckily their ancestors had plans for when champions were needed. An ancestor of each of the original kingdom's royal families had a special weapon crafted for their descendants to use in time of need. These weapons of incredible power were hidden deep beneath the kingdoms in the bowels of the isle, and only their kin can find the way and open the path.
You are all descendants of those royals - be it still part of the current royal family, deposed and living in hiding, or living a blissfully normal life having no clue who you are descended from. You are called upon by the central kingdom, whose young king and his elder princess sister inform you that you are the one to inherit your kingdom's great weapon in the coming time of need, and that he wishes to band together to retrieve these weapons as allies, and for safety. For there are those who believe they deserve these weapons and will interfere.
The game would be a healthy mix of political intrigue, exploring each character's backstory/kingdom (ie going to the zora's domain before you do the dungeon), and a small "dungeon crawl" to wrap up that character's/kingdom's arc. i say "dungeon crawl" because it's my game and well. you know there's gonna be more rp, and plenty of chances to rest and talk, etc.
Each character will receive an incredibly powerful weapon at the end of their arc, but won't have access to it without consequences. It is meant to be an endgame weapon in design, and will take a great toll on you once used. That being said, you CAN absolutely use it.
You would also be more than welcome to help shape your character's kingdom and how it's history has changed it, politically, culturally, and physically. Or you can leave it in my hands. (: Currently, each of the 8 kingdoms has inspirations from different cultures and ethnic groups of Asia, without being shitty stereotypes or caricatures.
Additional note: I know how stupid the name is but hear me out. While I was spitballing name ideas, I noticed the acronym for Champions of King is CoK. I, having the sense of humor of a 12yo, stuck with it.
Howdy, I'm Alta! I always love to have players help build onto the settings I provide and bring in whatever they want, but I thought it would be fun to just build a setting/pantheon/cultures/etc from scratch for the party to play in, WITH the players. (:
I'm a professional DM running about 10 paid campaigns at the moment, been a DM for about 10 years and a player for 15. My other current games include a magical girl/tokusatsu inspired high fantasy game with a sprinkling of existential dread, a world without it's legendary (and now forgotten) hero that is beginning to fall to a curse, and a circus with super normal and well adjusted people who have never done anything wrong ever in their lives. (: My games are always high fantasy and RP heavy, so if you're looking for gritty realism, scifi, or hack n slash, I'm not your DM!
Hard rules for all my games: NO racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, fatphobia, bigotry, etc. That includes fantasy versions (ie: "all orcs are born evil and therefore do x"). NO SA, noncon, torture.
I'm a 29yo nonbinary artist whose passion lies in storytelling! The most important things to me in ttrpgs are fun, roleplay, and story (including player characters' backstories, not just plot). I love homebrew and having the players add onto the setting with locations, plot hooks, NPCs, deities, whatever they (reasonably) want to add! New players always welcome! Being LGBTQ+ myself, obviously this table loves and welcomes LGBTQ+ players!
Do not expect a rules lawyer here; the rules are here for me to use as a base, something to fall back on, but ultimately we're here to have fun and do cool things. Rules can and will be waived or bent in my games - but only in the favor of the players, never to try and put you at a disadvantage. I'm here to challenge the player characters and be their guide through the world they explore. Sure, the dice gods may demand a death every once in a blue moon, but I'm 100% the party's biggest fan.
(all of this is subject to change, just the thoughts going into this and a base for the setting! you can work with your kingdom as much as you'd like!)
sarangerel and narangerel are brother kingdoms, the latter being the rain shadow of the former. sarangerel sits atop a plateau with a few snowy peaks; narangerel is the dry and arid desert beneath it. they are vaguely mongolian inspired. rajan-an-pranee is a gorgeous and lively rainforest dipping into a mangrove river valley, and "lively" being quite literal. it is vaguely thai inspired. azara-ka is a volcanic chain with many dormant, many active; regardless, it brings forth fertile lands, lush forests, and hearty crops. vaguely pacific islands inspired. lian-lian is a continuation of the rajan rainforest, but houses a canyon full of unique fungus (think nausicaa) that spills out into the ocean. vaguely south china inspired (*extremely *vague i know) galia-li has lovely fields and plains and, considering how often the lands flood, very close relations with their seadwelling residents. the floods are an entire season, and are just a part of life. vaguely india inspired inbal-ya, also of similar inspiration, houses a fantastical forest known for its fae life. the forests are known to sing! literally! the rivers and winds will carry a tune, maybe even a secret, for miles. haizea-la are stacked peaks of sharp mountains, a natural fortress and a beautiful one at that. the winds are strong here and clouds and mist often make the kingdom appear as if it were floating. inspired by tianzi, guilin mountains
merfolk, fishfolk, dryad, naiad, treefolk, fae, etc etc etc are absolutely normal in this setting. maybe not COMMON, but normal.
Princess Amaia and King Garaile of Haizea-la, of a type of Avariel. A few years ago, the late King and Queen passed away suddenly, leaving the throne to their youngest son thanks to their patriarchal bs. He has been handling it well considering his age (in his 20s! HORRIBLY young for such a position of power, to an elf!), but likely has been doing so well thanks to the advice of his elder sister. These two are hosting the Champions in their kingdom!
Quick doodles of updated designs for some NPCs! Ghost and Lyra, a foreign mage and his feline companion; Ao-lan, a super chill dragon man??; Cecil, a cursed bard; and Lucca, an elven soldier. There will be many more, but I just needed some art for the Startplaying banner teehee
Here's a closeup of Princess Amaia! She is an Avariel, almost akin to an air genasi in this setting. With hair and feathered wings like opalescent clouds, they give off a celestial air and grace no matter what they do.
A closeup of King Garaile. The young Avariel crowned king after a tragedy left his parents dead. Haizea-la was already relatively secluded and sheltered from other kingdoms, but the young king became even moreso after gaining this title and responsibility so young and so soon.
