For the last 600 years, the citizens of the town of Nelenora have been trapped, boxed in on every side by the impassible Thornwood. The Thornwood is a seemingly endless expanse of spike-covered forest, filled to the brim with terrifying creatures and constantly writhing as if it is alive. All those who have entered the forest in an attempt to break free from Nelenora have instead lost their lives, never to be seen in the town's halls again.
The Thornwood has kept Nelenora isolated for so long that no one who lives there remembers the outside world, and no contact has ever reached the town's gates. With each passing year, the Thornwood grows darker and more impassable, and its inhabitants more aggressive. If the people of Nelenora ever want to cross the Thornwood safely, time is running out
In service of this quest, Mayor Ralotoris Starkind is assembling a band of the town's most renowned hunters, trackers, trappers, scouts, and all other manner of rugged explorers with a singular goal in mind: Traverse the Thornwood and either end whatever is causing its corruption or find a path through it before it is too late. This campaign will feature a party of 4 Rangers facing off against the dangers of the Thornwood in order to free themselves and the town from imprisonment.
Ranger is one of my personal favorite classes, and often a class that is looked down upon because of how lackluster it was in the PHB, despite how incredible it's become since. My hope with this campaign is to provide an amazing single class experience while showing how much versatility and power Rangers can have!
Character Creation Rules -Characters will be created in the D&D Beyond Campaign, and will start at level 5. Use Point Buy to generate your stats, use Fixed values for HP, and turn off encumbrance. All characters must be Rangers, and each must have a different subclass. Subclasses are selected on a first-come first-serve basis. Optional class features and feats are both allowed -Most WoTC official content is allowed, as is Critical Role content with my approval. I have only a few exceptions: Silvery Barbs, Twilight Cleric, Peace Cleric, and Divination Wizard are banned at my table. In addition, to preserve the survival aspects of this game, Goodberries no longer provide 1 day of nourishment. Other third party content and homebrew content is not allowed -Characters will also start with 600 starting gold, 2 potions of healing, and a permanent magic item of my choice, which I will choose based on your backstory. Beyond that, you may use starting equipment or use part of that 600 gold to purchase different starting equipment from the Adventuring Gear section of the PHB -Multiclassing is allowed in this game, but with heavy restrictions: You must always have more levels in Ranger than you do in all other classes combined (Ties do not count) and you can only multiclass into one other class. In addition, while this is not a rule, I would appreciate it if in keeping with the spirit of this campaign, your Ranger levels are a key aspect of how your character functions
