It ranges from level 1-5 normally, though depending on your actions and the outcomes of the story, may bring you up to level 6. The Lost Mine of Phandelver has everything you could look for in an adventure - action, exploration, intrigue, dialogue, and loot! If you have ever wanted to play D&D, but didn't know where to start - it's here! The adventure also serves as a great testing ground for you, without an intensive time commitment into the future. If you enjoy me as a DM, and want to continue onto another adventure, or expand on this one, we can look into doing so!

a few quesitons from a new-ish player

~How much knowledge is required to start playing?

~If I get too attacthed to my character do I have to scrap it after your campaigns?

~Is there any third party software that is required for me to play?

Mainly I'm just wondering what is required of me just to start playing and not feel stupid.

Hello there Gorgash!

Thank you for your interest in the adventure! I am always happy to answer any and all questions, and I want you to feel comfortable asking whenever it is needed! So, to answer your inquiries:

1. A base understanding of the 5th Edition system is a plus, but not required in the slightest! If you have never taken part in an adventure, or even a Tabletop Role Playing Game before,  I will guide you in every step of the way! Also, we will be using a combination of D&D Beyond and Foundry Virtual Tabletop in this campaign. If you are unfamiliar with Foundry, don’t   worry – I am more than happy to ease you into its features and functionality!

I have onboarded numerous players throughout the years I have been DMing, and I love to see people learn the system and delve into it. In fact, a long running campaign I currently DM for consists of players that I introduced into the game, and we have been playing for a few years together since!

2. Character attachment is a beautiful thing! It is wonderful to watch players get invested into the characters they create, and fully flesh them out through the personal growth and development that takes place in a longer campaign. This adventure will have custom content added to it that relates to each character, so it will bring additional ways to develop the character of your dreams!

Your character is just that – yours! Whether it is decided that we carry on the campaign into further adventure, your character falls heroically (or tragically) in combat, or we reach the end of this adventure and decide to do something else or part ways, you get to keep your character forever!

My hope is that after this adventure, you decide to stay with me as a DM, so we can make many more memories and epic journeys together. This adventure serves as a “launching pad” for newer players (or even experienced ones who have yet to take part in it), so I can easily add more onto the experience after the primary conclusion takes place! Alternatively, we can decide to run a completely different adventure with entirely new characters. There are a lot of options and opportunities!

3. The short answer is that you only need Discord and a web browser! Foundry Virtual Tabletop will run for you in your web browser along with D&D Beyond, and Discord will be  used for voice and video chat.

This does mean that a microphone and webcam are required - we need to hear you, and seeing you allows everyone to have more dynamic, engaging, and immersive roleplay experiences!

In addition, all of the immersive ambient sounds, music tracks, and visual effects are integrated into Foundry, so you will hear it all through your web browser as well. I have worked to  make things as convenient as possible for all of the players!
