World Intro-
You exist with the party in a world known as Aetheria. Aetheria is an old world, full of magic, fantasy, mystery, and intrigue. Shadowy figures watch and plot, illustrious deva protect and guide from on high, and the factions of the world exist in the middle.
Aetheria sits in a sweet spot between the fantastical and whimsical worlds of fantasy you may have reveled in as a child, reading stories, but filled with the gravity and understanding of an adult perspective. Life is not as simple as black and white, and there are shades of grey in everything from intrigue and complications to political machinations and sacrifice. The world is bright, lively, and brimming with magic and high-powered fantasy, but contains the gravity of events that give real-world importance and high-stakes excitement.
Where do you hail from, traveler? The snowy badlands of the Bearkin tribes, honing your cryomancy in solitude? Living in the prestigious Dune City, practicing your gladiator skills from dusk til dawn? Or perhaps you are an outsider to the main lands, coming from the outskirts of the faraway continents, a nomad with no culture to call their own? The possibilities are endless; Aetheria has many walks of life, and all see their opportunities to rise just as much as their perils of falling.
Campaign hook-
In normal surgery, people worry about what happens if they don’t wake up. In brain surgery, they worry about what happens if they do.
The first thing you remember is falling. Down, down, down. Faster, faster, faster. Blacking out moments before you hit the ground-and then waking up in a field. Alive, miraculously. As you pick yourself up and head to the nearest town, a single question begins to coalesce in your mind- timid at first, but all too soon overpowering:
What did you lose in the Fall?
In The Price of Godhood, players wake up with shaky memories of who they are and where they’ve come from. Enough to function just like any other normal mortal, but with just enough missing to know, deep down, that you *aren’t*, in fact, just like any other mortal. At first just a nudge in the back of your mind, if you listen to it, it develops into an urge to find the missing piece to your being. Along with your party members, you’ll find that you all used to be more…so much more. Once, you were gods. Now, you must reclaim your divinity and ascend back to the heavens from whence you came.
Except…it’s never that easy, is it? Just as mortals dream of Godhood, indeed some gods dream of mortality like they may have once known. Have you been given a second chance for a finite life given meaning? Or have you been cast out wrongfully and nothing else matters other than restoring your grace? Why was it you all that were chosen for this particular fate? These are all questions to be answered.
Of course, Aetheria does not rest idle while you puzzle out your next move. Ancient groves of powerful druids make moves to protect their own, and the world itself, from a “Great Darkness” seen by the elders of their circles. But you will quickly see that in order to protect the world, they may just be willing to raze it to the ground. Is this an act of protection? Or is being saved sometimes the same as being damned?
In The Price of Godhood, you as characters will face decisions at every turn. What do you owe to those who knew you before? Are you beholden to your former followers? Do you deserve a second chance? What do you owe to yourself? And what, pray tell, is truly the part of you that defines your being? Will you choose to reclaim your godhood and ascend once more, perhaps changed, perhaps restored?
What will happen to Aetheria if you don’t?
DM Note and Campaign overview-
Hello! I'm SarcasticDruid. I've DMed for about four years across four separate campaigns. My primary campaign, The Perilous Planes, is my longest running so far at just over one year, and it has given me plenty of ways to learn, grow, and develop my DMing style. I tend to go for a more sandbox-esque world where an over-arching story may be in play, but the individual choices of each character shape the way the story unfolds– and how they get to where they're going.
I am a very rule-of-cool DM but know the rules well enough to improv and let my players feel comfortable in being true to their characters; you don't need to min-max every single decision or else you'll fail. I want there to be challenges, but I firmly believe that having fun with others in a made-up story is the most important aspect of this game and the community built around it. I have a strong respect for the nature of this game, and it shines through in the way I run my games. With every session, I aim to grow my skills for both myself and my players’ enjoyment of the game we’re building with each other. I pride myself on creating intricate storylines, surprising twists, and those classic “the-pieces-just-fell-together-at-once” feelings. My mantra can be summed up mostly as: I will make my players/characters laugh, curse, rejoice, scream, and cry, but at the end of it all there will be a happy ending. Maybe not everyone lives, maybe not everything is perfect... But it will be okay in the end. Because that's the kind of story that I need, so that's the one I write.
I focus on bringing the fantastical parts of fantasy to life; the worlds and the stories in them are brimming with life and whimsy, yet still accentuate the gravity of real life and the choices that everyone has to make. I balance seriousness and gravitas with hilarity, whimsy, and plenty of over-the-top magic that comes from a fantasy setting!
Ideally, this is the timeline I’d like to set with TPoG:
February 28th - March 13th
This post goes live, and applications open up! I will keep them open for about two weeks, to get a good net of possible players!
March 14th - April 4th
Applications (tentatively) close, and I begin to work with potential players to see what characters they want to make for the campaign. During this time, I would also like to get players together to play one or two one-shots, to test for group chemistry and to make sure everyone is at the right table. If needed, apps will open up again.
April 5th - April 19th
Finalizations for player characters are made, additional required lore is established, and preparations for the game are finished!
April 20th
Game time! The first session of The Price of Godhood goes live.
So, if this feels like something up your alley, fill out the Player Candidate form here, and I'll look forward to talking to you soon! https://forms.gle/du8sAkypgZbsKvwi8
