Greetings, adventurers!
Void or Kitten here, your trusty Game Master for this upcoming epic campaign. We've been delving into the realms of tabletop role-playing for quite some time now, guiding intrepid heroes through the wonders of Dungeons & Dragons. With a history of DMing 5th edition since its release, and a decade of experience in the realms of 3.5 prior to that, we've honed our storytelling skills and mastered the art of weaving immersive narratives that captivate and inspire. As a self-proclaimed Improv DM, we thrive on the unpredictable nature of tabletop gaming. Anything can happen in our games, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Our style of DMing heavily relies on player interactivity, fostering a collaborative storytelling experience where every player's input is valued and celebrated. It's this dynamic approach that keeps our games fresh, exciting, and full of surprises. While we primarily traverse the familiar landscapes of the Forgotten Realms, we're not afraid to venture into uncharted territories and explore the depths of homebrew content. From custom races and items to unique NPCs and story arcs, we're constantly expanding and enriching the world with the creative contributions of our players. In our games, players take center stage, helping to shape the narrative world through their actions, decisions, and character development. We believe in a player-forward approach, where the spotlight shines equally on each member of the adventuring party. Together, we'll embark on a journey filled with danger, discovery, and countless opportunities for heroism.
About This Campaign
Join us for a rare and thrilling challenge in the Spire of the Proven, a legendary tower created by the mythical Creator Races of the Forgotten Realms. As part of a special cycle marking a historic proving, ascend this ancient and mysterious spire in a campaign designed for those who revel in tactical combat and strategic planning. Experience the excitement of a dynamic, combat-heavy game where cooperation is key, but personal glory is the ultimate prize.
What We Offer:
Dynamic Combat Encounters: Engage in a series of meticulously designed combat scenarios that challenge your strategic thinking and combat prowess. Enemies WILL be played optimally/smartly and utilize tactics, including but not limited to "piling on".
Evolving Challenges: Face a tower that adapts and evolves, ensuring no two encounters are alike. While each floor will be combat focused, each of the floors enemies will vary. Not every floor will have a straightforward path of completion however. Sometimes, the order in which things are killed will matter.
Rich Lore: Though primarily combat-focused, the campaign is rooted in deep homebrewed lore, offering opportunities for those interested in the legends of the Forgotten Realms.
Competitive Edge: Gear up for a campaign where your tactical decisions influence not only your survival but your legacy in the realms.
Looking For:
Players Who Love Combat: Ideal for those who prefer tactical battles and strategic gameplay.
Team Players With a Competitive Spirit: While teamwork is essential, readiness for unexpected challenges and twists will be key.
Adventurers Ready for a Challenge: Prepared to face intense trials and potentially world-altering decisions.
Technology Used:
Foundry VTT for gameplay, maps, and character sheets.
Discord for voice communication and session coordination.
Campaign Length
Duration and Pacing: This campaign is meticulously structured, targeting approximately 35 sessions, with each session lasting about 3 hours. We anticipate that each session will cover roughly 3 floors of the Spire of the Proven, allocating about 1 hour of real-time play per floor. This pace is designed to keep the game engaging and dynamic, ensuring steady progression through the tower's challenges. However, the actual number of sessions may vary based on combat efficiency, decision-making speed, and potential extensions of session times as agreed upon by the group. Our goal is to maintain a pace that is brisk yet allows for rich, tactical gameplay, aiming to provide a fulfilling narrative experience within the estimated timeframe.
Application Questions:
Name/Nickname: What name would you like to be addressed by during the game? Is this also the name you wish to have used within the Discord chat space? Gaming Experience: How long have you been playing tabletop RPGs, and what systems have you played before? Its okay if this answer is none, we love accepting new players into the space. This simply helps us determine who will need more assistance in creation/during play, and is not a metric used for deciding if you are an eligible candidate to the party. Character Concept: Do you have any initial ideas or concepts for the character you'd like to play in this campaign? Feel free to share a brief description if you have one. Given that this campaign is heavily combat focused, backstory elements may not be as prominent as they would be in other campaigns. As such, you are not required to create an elegant backstory for this one, unless you wish to. Availability: Which day are you most available on? What about your second most available day? The time slot will be the same on each of the days, this is simply to find commonality for the group(s)? Are there any specific scheduling constraints or preferences we should be aware of? Commitment: Are you able to commit to attending regular sessions and actively participating in the campaign? While this may seem like a redundant question, this is more so asking if you are committed to engaging with the story, albeit not as present here in this campaign specifically, not simply showing up. Every now and then, we run across that person who is simply going through the motions of showing up, but not actually wanting to be there. Expectations: What are your expectations for this campaign? What do you hope to get out of the experience as a player? Anything Else: Is there anything else you'd like to share or ask about the campaign before joining?
Interested parties can reply to this thread, or reach out to us on Discord at dmvoidkitten to communicate directly. While we do require sharing a server, or being our friend to message us, we do respond faster via Discord, so don't hesitate to reach out! May the dice roll ever in your favor!
Now, let us dive into more details.
Character Creation
Custom Point Buy System: We use a custom Point Buy System that allows players to create more heroic characters. Instead of getting a Racial bonus or an increase from Feats, you will instead get more points to use. This makes any race/half-feat viable, instead of giving an undesirable stat to get the benefits you want. If you are already familiar with using the Point Buy system, our expanded system will be very easy for you to adjust to.
Race Options: Players can choose from any race available in official sources. Ability Score improvements from Race will not be used, as written. Optionally, if you have a homebrew race you are interested in, feel free to ask. We are fairly open to using homebrew, or modifying it if need be to be in balance with other players choices. Ultimately, we are here to facilitate an environment of fun, over being hindered by the rules.
Backgrounds: Players can choose from any official source, using the PHB custom background variant found on page 126. For this campaign specifically, these wont play into the grand scheme of things nearly as much as they would in a standard 1-20 campaign.
Starting Equipment: As this will be a 1 to 20 game, and potentially beyond 20, there will be no special increases to your starting equipment, beyond your starting classes and backgrounds. You will have the option to acquire both mundane and magical gear, every 5 floors of the tower.
House Rules/Custom Content
Paladin Auras Modifications Aura of Protection - The Aura of Protection ability has been adjusted to require a reaction to activate, providing a bonus to saving throws equal to the Paladin's Charisma modifier to to a number of targets equal to half the proficiency bonus, rounded down. The range increases to 30 feet at 18th level per normal. Immunity Auras - Auras that grant immunity to a condition now provide advantage on saving throws against that condition instead.
Silvery Barbs Modification Instead of taking the lower roll when affected by Silvery Barbs, the target will take the new roll. This effectively functions as a "re-roll" rather than imposing disadvantage.
Tower Mechanics
Rest and Recovery
Short Rests: Players are allowed two short rests every five floors of the tower. These can be used after any floor, though are not carried over to the next set of floors.
Long Rests: Occur only at the designated shopping/transition floors (after floors 5, 10, 15, etc.). These floors are safe zones where no combat occurs, allowing players to recover fully, level up, and prepare for the next set of challenges. Resting in this campaign differs from normal, in that each Set of 5 floors, is considered to take a weeks time, with each floor being challenged on a unique day. The Long Rest period lasts two days, instead of the traditional 8 hours, for a total of 7 days per Set. While you are considered to sleep between each floor, this itself is not a long rest, nor a short rest, for this game.
Experience and Leveling
Experience Points: Players gain fixed experience points after each floor, exactly 1/5th of the amount needed to level up. This ensures that players level up during their long rest on the shopping/transition floors, keeping the leveling process consistent and predictable.
Post-Level 20 Boons: After reaching level 20, players continue to gain experience towards Boons, calculated per the Dungeon Master's Guide (DMG). Every additional floor cleared grants a Boon, which could range from powerful magical items to unique abilities or other significant advantages. You cannot acquire the same boon more than once, unless otherwise stated. Per the optional rule for Boons, you may instead choose to increase your Stats or gain a Feat instead. In either of these cases, Ability Points will be granted instead, per our homebrew Point Buy System. Stats can be increased up to 30 in this system, even before level 20.
Shopping and Equipment
Magic Shops: Available only during long rests on the transition floors. The shops’ inventories improve and expand as players ascend the tower, offering higher rarity items that correspond to player level and achievements within the tower. You will not be able to buy any item you want, but instead, have a list of items to choose from, generated at random. You could use some of your gold, to influence the next shop floors inventory however, utilizing a modified version of the "looking to buy magic items" rules from xgte. Outside of this, shops will have randomly selected items, including homebrew items. Your Level will determine the shops inventory, with a chance to acquire the next levels rarity. To keep things easy, we will be using the Average Price for magic items, using XGTE price-points, as follows
Common Items: Average price is 45 gp.
Uncommon Items: Average price is 350 gp.
Rare Items: Average price is 11,000 gp.
Very Rare Items: Average price is 35,000 gp.
Legendary Items: Average price is 175,000 gp. Consumables cost half the listed price above, unless they already have a fixed price. (EX. Potion of Healing is fixed at 50gp)
Economy: The gold and items available are based on players' progression and achievements, encouraging strategic spending and resource management. Each floor completed, will reward you with a fixed gold value. While there is no mathematical formula for it, assuming you spend none of your gold until level 20, you will have a total of 4167500 gold to spend. This means, if you hold out until after floor 95 to buy anything, you could acquire almost 24 Legendary items, though you are still limited to the attunement slots.
Tower Structure and Progression
Unspecified Total Floors: The tower has an unspecified number of floors, with the campaign initially focusing on reaching and completing floor 95 for reaching level 20.
Continuation Beyond Level 20: Once level 20 is reached, players can choose to either continue ascending the tower to earn Boons or enter the Final Showdown. This decision is final—if the Showdown is chosen, there is no returning to gather additional Boons.
Failure and Penalties
Three Strikes Rule: If a party fails to complete a floor's challenge three times, they are considered to have been "defeated" by that floor. This means their current attempt to ascend the tower with those characters is over. They cannot continue climbing and must start over with new characters.
Non-Permanent Death: The Spire of the Proven is enchanted to prevent permanent death within its walls. This is a safeguard put in place by the Creator Races to ensure that while the stakes are high, the ultimate price isn't a player's life. At the end of each floor, win or lose, characters at 0 life are restored to 1 hp.
Survival of Any Member: If at least one party member survives the encounter, the team is considered to have passed that floor.
Q&A Section
We will answer any other questions you may have, as they arise, and edit this section accordingly with the question posed, and its answer
This campaign has no monetary attachments to it, or else we would have clearly marked it in the title, tags, and post, as Paid. While all of our games that we host offer the capability to "tip your DM", not all of them require it. ^-^
We have three applicants so far (all through discord, hence why you no see them here ;p). Plenty of time still to reach out. The day so far is looking to be either Monday, Thursday, or Friday, with a preference towards Thursday.
We have 4 currently interested in a friday slot, with a 5th preferring thursday, though thinks friday will work. Will be taking any appplications until this evening, roughly 12 hours from this post, into consideration before making final choices. It does at this time, appear to be a Friday game slot however, at 7pm eastern murica time.
Name/Nickname: I prefer to go by The Doctor, but Tony works as well. Discord: TheDoctor1685
Gaming Experience: I would say I am an experienced player with half a dozen years under my belt.
Character Concept: I enjoy playing Necromancers. Specifically battle field controller types. Utilizing skeletons to aid teammates and bog down the enemy. I also enjoy the concept of playing a dark character that disguised himself as a holy man. So a Cleric/Wizard mix.
Availability: I am on PST and I work Tuesday through Sunday 830am- 6pm. After that I am available so 6pm-midnight
Commitment: I am. I am a battle junkie so point me in the direction of combat and I am there!
Expectations: Honestly I hold no expectations as I like to be surprised. I'm a big fan of HxH so I look forward to what is to be discovered via rp.
Anything Else: I do get into character fairly easily. But I can not do voices. I'm easy going and flexible and willing to help yo any capacity that I have.

If it's late night I can join! It sounds like a fun first-time experience for someone who's only has experience from Rustage's One piece D&D podcast. I do hope to join/

Name/Nickname: You can just call me Chaos. Gaming Experience: I haven't played any tabletop RPGs, but I would love to. Character Concept: My character likes to dance after each victory. Availability: Anytime after 4 o'clock works for me, but on weekends I can participate anytime. Commitment: I would love to engage whenever I can, and I will try my very best to attend every session. Expectations: I just want to have fun and enjoy the company of others. Anything Else: Nope :).
10 of the 12 seats have been claimed. If you want a campaign filled with action, and none of that roleplay guck, come on in. ;p (Spoiler: There is always room for Roleplay xD)
Hello! I am Nick a experienced D&D player with roughly 8-9 years of experience mostly as the DM. I am looking for a chill group to roleplay with. I’m a understanding player who will work with my DM to make a interesting and fun character. My discord name is devilishdm , I’m dedicated and will be punctual and communicative. I’m very used to home brew content as I use it in my campaigns I’m also willing to do a interview with you so you can get a grasp on what kind of person/player I am
I am interested in joining if the spot is still open.
Name/Nickname: Scovt/Novel is fine or just my characters name.
Gaming Experience: A few years of off and on casual games IRL, I'm new to online play and may need a brief tutorial on use of the software
Character Concept: Thinking of a playing as a Lizardfolk Wizard, going into Order of the Scribes. Backstory-wise I will probably keep it rather light and generic. Gameplay-wise I will focus on finding and hoarding spells. Possibility of multi-classing into warlock to gain Genie vessel for expanded functionality if that is ok(still haven't decided).
Availability: I have a free schedule. This may change towards December/January.
Commitment: The premise seems like a wonderful idea and I would love to get engrossed in it.
Expectations: I hope to experience in-depth combat and potentially mechanics past beating up "target A" in large room to progress.
Anything Else: I have not played in a minute so my RPing skills are a bit rusty, particularly my voice.

Character Creation
Custom Point Buy System:
We use a custom Point Buy System that allows players to create more heroic characters. Instead of getting a Racial bonus or an increase from Feats, you will instead get more points to use. This makes any race/half-feat viable, instead of giving an undesirable stat to get the benefits you want. Optionally, if you have a homebrew race you are interested in, feel free to ask. We are fairly open to using homebrew, or modifying it if need be to be in balance with other players choices. Ultimately, we are here to facilitate an environment of fun, over being hindered by the rules.
Backgrounds:
Players can choose from any official source, using the PHB custom background variant found on page 126. For this campaign specifically, these wont play into the grand scheme of things nearly as much as they would in a standard 1-20 campaign.
Starting Equipment:
As this will be a 1 to 20 game, and potentially beyond 20, there will be no special increases to your starting equipment, beyond your starting classes and backgrounds. You will have the option to acquire both mundane and magical gear, every 5 floors of the tower.

An opening has appeared for one lucky folk!! The group has just finished Floor 10, meaning Character Level 3, more gold, and a shopping spree!
