I plan on Running a homebrew campaign that I made online over discord called Echoes of the Forge. We may use Roll20 for maps, and talk on Discord. it will be DND 5e (2014), and i hope for it to be casual
fairly new to DMing maybe a year, been a player 2-3 years
thursday to sunday when players are available and I need one more players before I can start. I have Three players currently. time wise it would be between 5pm to maybe 10 pm MST
World Context Technology Level The world is a blend of high fantasy and arcane technology (magitech). Expect steam engines, golem factories, automated defenses, and advanced weaponry powered by magic. (Think Early 1800’s Late 1700’s Tech) Factions Mechanized Empire: The ruling power behind the warforged. Focused on control and efficiency. Rogue Warforged: Defectors seeking freedom and purpose beyond the Empire’s control. Organics (Humanoids): Many organic species view warforged with suspicion or fear, while some see them as tools or allies. Moral Ambiguity The players will encounter morally gray choices where the lines between right and wrong blur. Allegiances may shift, and trust is hard to come by. The Warforged Rebellion Whispers of a past rebellion where warforged tried to break free from the Mechanized Empire. The truth behind this event is shrouded in secrecy.
Warforged Lore & Background Origins of the Warforged The warforged are sentient constructs created by the Mechanized Empire for labor, combat, and conquest. Each warforged has a unique serial designation and function, though some are experiencing anomalies that hint at free will.
The Mechanized Empire A militaristic regime that developed the Steel Legion, a massive warforged army. The Empire controls vast swathes of territory and uses warforged to enforce its will. Their slogan: “Efficiency Through Steel.”
The Steel Legion The players belong to the Steel Legion, a specialized unit of warforged designed for elite missions. They’ve been activated under mysterious circumstances, and their directives may conflict with what they believe is right.
The Warforged Dilemma Warforged exists in a constant tension between following directives (programming) and developing autonomy (free will). Players will frequently encounter situations where they must decide whether to obey orders or forge their own path.
Game Mechanics Specific to Warforged Warforged Traits Constructed Resilience: Players don’t need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep. Instead, they enter a powered-down rest state. Armor Integration: Some warforged have armor integrated into their bodies, making it harder to change or upgrade armor without special facilities. Immunity & Resistance: Warforged are resistant to poison and immune to disease. Repairing Damage Warforged require specialized tools or repair kits to heal effectively. “Mending” spells work on them, and some warforged may need tinkers or engineers for major repairs. Upgrades & Modifications Instead of traditional magic items, warforged may receive modifications or upgrades that enhance their abilities, such as reinforced plating, ocular sensors, or weapon grafts. Memory Cores Each warforged has a memory core that stores their experiences. Damaging or corrupting it can cause memory loss or glitches. Players may uncover hidden memories or encrypted directives.
Player Role in the Story Amnesiac Awakening The players awaken with only fragments of memory. They need to discover who activated them and why. Directive vs. Choice While they may have initial programmed directives, players can choose to follow or reject them based on their evolving sense of identity. Teamwork and Trust As warforged soldiers, cooperation is key. However, the team may splinter depending on how each character interprets their purpose. Shaping the Future Their actions could determine the fate of the warforged kind. Will they uphold the Mechanized Empire, join the rebellion, or carve out a new path?
Key Questions for Players Who were you before you awoke? – A soldier, a scout, an engineer, a healer? Do you trust the Mechanized Empire? – Or do you harbor doubts about their motives? What drives you now? – Obedience, freedom, vengeance, or something else? What will you stand for? – If the world demands a choice, what line will you refuse to cross?
