Are you watching The Boys on Amazon? This is that, set in a pseudo-ancient/medieval fantasy city that borrows and blends elements from the Roman Republic at the time of its collapse and modern America. Almost all of the NPCs are homages to superheroes and villains from DC and Marvel Comics, or famous real world figures from the past and present, all altered in much the same way as the characters in The Boys.
Players are encouraged to make characters that fit into this superhero motif, even to play as particular heroes or villains from established comics (under a new name, of course), or players are free to make a wholly original character. I'll work with you on your backstory if it needs adjustment to work within the lore of this homebrewed world.
If we have enough players by Sunday, June 19th, I'd like to start with a Session 0.5. It wouldn't run overly long. You'd get the central plot thread, introduced to the main factions, be given a few quest hooks, and maybe get some gear.
Game: D&D 5e
Group type: Online via Roll20's virtual table top, using character sheets from DnDBeyond and audio chat via Discord
My Experience: I've been a Dungeon Master for two years and have run a version of this campaign previously. I've since refined it and am eager to give a new set of players the best experience possible
Time zone: Eastern Time
Schedule: Approximately two hour sessions every other Sunday evening, longer or shorter and with more or less frequency as schedules permit
Roles sought: Three to five players of any age and any experience level, from newcomers to veterans. Players should be fluent in English and able to use Roll20 and Discord.
Game style: Roleplay heavy with a focus on the politics of a fantasy city. Combat will be plentiful enough and potentially lethal at times. Always have a backup character.
The name of the adventure is "The Good O'l Boys" after one of the factions, and as an homage to the comic/show that inspired it.
There's a very clear overarching objective, but lots of diverse ways of working towards it. The players in my past game surprised me with some I didn't account for at all, including very creative use of spells.
There are two main faction directly opposed to one another, and it's not a clear cut matter of heroes versus villains.
I use Civilization VI's world editor to design the city's map, and each district has its own activities and stories that feed into the larger plot. The order in which you visit them affects what you learn when. For example, a prostitute might gossip during pillow talk about another client's crimes, only for you to learn about them after having already helped him. But if you visit her first, you might not choose to help him known he's a criminal. Lot's of stuff like that.
The whole structure of the game is very much like the old BioWare games model, with the many various districts being a bit like the planets you'd go to in Knights of the Old Republic or Mass Effect.
There's a clearly established timetable right from the outset, and it will always be clear how long something should take to accomplish and how much time has passed since the start.
There are over 200 bespoke NPCs, each with their own game token and dozens with their own unique character build. Some conform very closely to their comic book counterparts, and others share only a similar name, so you never know what to expect when you first meet them.
I'm very interested in joining! I have over 5 years of DnD experience as DM and as a player (roleplaying). My Discord info is Corsair#5436. I have an idea of a Dr Doom character for this adventure. I look forward to hearing from you.

Yeah, we can fit a fifth. We'll call that the final slot in the party.
Two players dropped out without a word right before session Zero, so two more spots opened. The first full session is next Sunday at 7 pm.
This sounds incredible! I’m definitely interested. Pantherlily92#8149
