Heavily inspired by the novel Sun of Suns, this world takes place inside a giant sphere the size of the moon. Inside the sphere, there is near-zero gravity, so creatures without a fly speed would float untethered. Sunlight is the source of life, sustenance, and therefore power. Artificers have figured out how to create miniature suns, and it’s a closely guarded secret. The larger factions maintain their control by squashing smaller factions’ attempts to create their own suns; a sun means freedom. Rings are constructed around the suns that simulate gravity as they spin; the rings are where crops are grown and cities are built. There are also cylindrical structures (barges) that spin to simulate gravity, but these are not as elite as living on a ring, since inhabitants would be living shaded from the sunlight. Lastly, the Banished Sky is a domain isolated from the gods and planes, so there will be some class restrictions; I'm a flexible DM, though, so I will work with you if your first draft of your character conflicts with the setting.
The major flavors of this campaign are going to be swashbuckling, revolution, and political intrigue.
Gameplay will be balanced between combat and role-play. While there is the mystery element, there will also be conflicts with fantastic beasts and murderous bandits. Far travel introduces survival challenges as your party braves the elements in the long stretches of the open sky. The campaign has a destination, but how you get there and how you want it to end is yours to play with. My DM style is pretty adaptive, and the choices your characters make will matter; I will make up new stuff on the spot to follow your characters in a new direction.
Game will be played weekly on Sunday afternoons at 1:00 pm CST. Sessions will usually last about 4 hours. $15 per session or $50 per month. Session 0 will be free and done through chat on Discord, and the group can discuss their character ideas, party dynamics, and together with the DM we'll figure out how our story starts and with which faction. We’ll start with Level 3 characters. Players new to D&D are welcome.
About myself, I am 35 years old, and I have been playing and GMing D&D and other TTRPGs for about 8 years, and I was a Storyteller for a LARP for 3 years.
