I am a forever DM who loves running the game, and am currently seeking to expand my player base.
Game: D&D 5e Group preferred: Online Experience: Over a year with D&D and Roll20 (fresh and dedicated!), but decades with other RPGs and fantasy works Location/Timezone: Central European Time, but flexible Availability: Any day of the week in the evening, with preference for Fridays and Saturdays Preferred role: Dungeon Master Game style: Each of my sessions typically gets a good dose of the three pillars of D&D - Combat, exploration, and roleplay. I enjoy hosting semi-open campaigns while providing hooks for main plots, secondary plots, and personal quests (based on players' backgrounds and interests), which the players may pursue as they find interesting. I usually run the game in my homebrew setting of Mythenheim, a Tolkienesque high fantasy world with some twists here and there. However, I am willing to run modules and one shots, should there be interest. Let me know what you prefer.
Mythenheim
In the world of Mythenheim stands the brave nation of Akarovia, an alliance of different factions who, with the aid of the Divines, stood victorious against the Great Demon Invasion roughly 300 years past. While the demon threat was subsided, internal politics are now at play, with the dwarves of Volgarad to the south seeking independence from the Akarovian throne. Meanwhile, orcish incursions from the west become more and more common, and northern travellers from the Thousand Peaks bring news of a dragon cult rising somewhere in the mountains. Do you have what it takes to seize your destiny, adventurer?
Potential Campaign ideas to Explore, which may be done independently or weaved together:
- Demons Returning: Corrupted relics, missing clerics, and other nefarious signs hint at demons returning to Akarovia. Could a new demon Overlord be rising, and if so, can you bring an end to this madness before the Gates of Infernus are opened?
- Rise of the Dragon Cult: A red dragon has claimed the Thousand Peaks to the north as his domain, and his followers quickly spread throughout the mountains. The locals live in fear, and are terribly burdened by taxes and other demands from these dragon cultists. Can you stop this regime of fear, and claim the dragon's treasure hoard?
- Race for the Emperor’s Throne: The dwarves of Volgarad in the south are disgruntled and seeking independence from the Akarovian throne. Only one way to do so: make the old legends true by travelling the world to collect the Creator Gems in order to forge the Emperor’s Crown. This relic grants the right to rule Volgarad, but beware: you are not the only ones after it. (At least one dwarf player recommended, but not necessary)
Session Details
- Sessions run from 3 to 4 hours - Voice chat required (Discord), camera optional - Game takes place on Roll20 - We will use D&DBeyond for character sheets - You must be over 18 years old
My DMing style
- I am considerate and love helping new/unexperienced people. Let me know if there’s something I can do for you!
- I keep expanding on the homebrew world based on what you give me. Want to rally an army and fight dragons? Want to become an assassin for hire? Want to be a well-spoken diplomat making peace across nations? We will find a way to make it work.
- I love homebrewing monsters, tactics, and items. Do not expect monsters to match their MM counterpart 100%
- If you have any homebrew ideas, that’s great! But, I must approve of them first.
- I’m not trying to kill you... I’m trying to help you! I have fun, when you have fun. But in my eyes a true victory comes with great challenge. Remember: I am rooting for you.
- Death is a possibility for careless adventurers.
- I enjoy a good balance between combat, exploration, and roleplay. I aim for at least a couple of combats per session.
- I roll behind the screen.
- You may roll privately or in Roll20. We run on the honor system!
- Jokes are fine, but are not to intrude in the whole mood of the game, which should be focused.
- I am not rude, but if you are being noisy, I will ask you to please be quiet for the sake of the other players.
Homebrew Rules and Setting Conditions
- Flanking grants a +2 bonus to hit, offering more tactical advantages since it may be combined with other potential bonuses.
- Resurrection spells do not exist, as far as the average person knows. Myths and legends of resurrection exist, and it may even be possible to discover a way to bring someone back, but these spells are not accessible from the get go. I enjoy the higher tension that combat offers by playing this way, and it opens room for more interesting plots, which I prefer.
- Players may award eachother Inspiration, which may be used as normal or to reroll a die. Players should do this when appropriate, such as after an epic/interesting/funny/clever moment. If this ability is abused, then it will be removed and only I may grant Inspiration.
- Inspiration may be used to reroll certain rolls, such as attacks and ability checks.
- Long Rests performed in dangerous/uncomfortable areas may be rejected or challenged with skill checks, at the GM’s discretion. It is always a good idea to take a breather back at the inn with your companions!
- Gold, silver, and copper exist as valuable materials that may be traded, but not as currency. The currency used by most individuals is a strange green-ish blue coin called Denari, found in different values and shapes.
- Abyssal and Infernal are different terms for the same language.
- No PvP or stealing from the party, unless everyone agrees.
- Avoid extreme topics. Romantic scenes fade to black, etc.
- I have the final say during the game, but feedback is definitely welcome post-session!
- Leveling up happens by milestones, not experience gain.
What to do
If you are interested in participating, leave a comment or send me a PM and we will discuss further details.
Payment - Disclaimer
This game will require payment to the Game Master at a rate of 10 USD per person to be done via PayPal before the session. As we will be playing on Roll20, Roll20 is not responsible for any payment transactions and cannot enforce any private arrangements.
Session 0 is free, however, so you may always take a step back if it's not for you.
Payment ensures quality service, and that we are all on the same page when it comes to having a great, solid Dungeons and Dragons experience. I take great pride in running the game, and am always seeking to expand based on my players' interests.
About me
I am 30 year old European with a background in tourism and customer service, and have also delved in writing and boardgame design. I love interacting with different cultures and speaking with people from all over the world.
Fantasy has been an interest of mine ever since I can remember, with Fighting Fantasy books paving the way for much more! I have experience running the game in-person and online from 1 to 5 players. I can make it work with any party of a size in that range, and am willing to eventually expand.
Finally, Matt Colville is one of my greatest inspirations when it comes to running the game! I love DMing, and believe that with help and input from one another, we can always improve.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment or send me a PM.
May all your rolls be natural 20s!
Best regards, DM_AC
