I was just looking over the unofficial Oath of the Open Sea paladin subclass which was published on D&D beyond. I was reading over the 7th level ability which is as follows
Aura of Liberation
Starting at 7th level, you emanate an aura while you’re not incapacitated. You and any creature of your choice within 10 feet of you cannot be grappled or restrained, as well as ignore penalties on movement or attacks while underwater. Creatures that are already grappled or restrained when they enter the aura can spend 5 feet of movement to automatically escape nonmagical restraints.
On the other hand, the Grappler feat has the following possible effect:
You can use your action to try to pin a creature Grappled by you. To do so, make another grapple check. If you succeed, you and the creature are both Restrained until the grapple ends.
So, if a Paladin of this oath used the grappler feat to pin another creature, could they do so without becoming restrained themselves? (RAW, I imagine it isnt at all RAI)
Oh. Yeah I don't really pay attention to either. I love Matt Mercer the DM. Not so much Matt Mercer the homebrewer. I'll have to look at it to see what it's about.
For the Paladin or their one chosen Person it would work. For everybody else it would not work.
The problem for everybody else is in having to spend movement. But if your grappled or restrained... You have no movement to spend to take advantage of the ability that it's supposed to be giving to everybody else by what you've written here.

The Freedom of Movement spell has the same sort of effect, so presumably you can spend movement to escape a grapple if there is a special effect that allows you to.
In any case, the main thing I wanted to highlight was that the Paladin could restrain an enemy without being restrained themself (the normal penalty of the Grappler feat)

This is a really cool find. I hope it makes it through UA so that there is something to do with Grappler.
I definitely think it works as written and I'd be all about letting it into a game.
Its not really UA. Its one of the Matt Mercer subclasses published here on D&D beyond.
But I agree, it could be fun.
